Job Summary
The Staff Attorney provides high-quality legal representation and advocacy to juvenile clients navigating delinquency, dependency, and other juvenile-related proceedings in Jefferson County, Alabama. This role involves managing a caseload, conducting legal research, interviewing clients, and appearing frequently in Juvenile Court. The ideal candidate is passionate about youth advocacy and trauma-informed care.
Core Responsibilities
- Represents clients in Juvenile Court regarding dependency, delinquency, termination of parental rights, and related family law matters.
- Draft pleadings, motions, discovery requests, and appellate briefs.
- Conduct evidentiary hearings and trials in compliance with the Alabama Rules of Juvenile Procedure and Alabama Rules of Civil Procedure.
- Work alongside social investigators, case managers, and community partners to ensure holistic support for clients.
- Advocate for educational, mental health, and community-based resources.
- Maintain accurate and confidential case files in compliance with the Alabama Star Bar rules and organizational policies.

Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must have the following qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree.
- Active license in good standing to practice law in the State of Alabama (Alabama State Bar), or eligibility for admission by reciprocity in Alabama.
- Experience practicing in Alabama Juvenile Courts or demonstrated commitment to public interest law, juvenile justice, or family advocacy.
- Strong legal research and writing capabilities; ability to communicate effectively with children and families from diverse backgrounds; knowledge of trauma-informed advocacy practices.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Certification as a guardian ad litem by the Alabama Administrative Office of Courts, or proof of registration for the next available state-sponsored training.
- A valid Alabama driver’s license.
