As a Staff Data Engineer at BP PLC, you will be instrumental in designing, building, and maintaining scalable and robust data pipelines and systems. You will play a key role in enabling data-driven decisions across the organization by ensuring high-quality, accessible, and reliable data infrastructure.

Job Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and optimize complex data models, databases, and data warehousing solutions, including relational data modeling.
  • Implement and manage continuous deployment and release pipelines for data solutions, adhering to Agility core practices.
  • Develop and maintain robust data ingestion, transformation, and processing scripts.
  • Ensure the security and integrity of data systems, adhering to Information Security best practices.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, analysts, and software engineers, to understand data requirements and deliver solutions.
  • Contribute to system design and architecture discussions, focusing on scalability, performance, and resilience.
  • Manage configuration and source control for data infrastructure and code, utilizing appropriate tools and processes.
  • Facilitate technical discussions and mentor junior team members, fostering a high-performing team environment.
  • Drive improvements in service operations and resilience for data platforms.
  • Apply digital project management principles to deliver data initiatives efficiently.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly and concisely to diverse audiences.

Job Qualifications

  • Proven experience in Database Design and Relational Data Modelling.
  • Strong proficiency in Scripting languages (e.g., Python, SQL).
  • Demonstrated experience with Continuous deployment and release processes.
  • Expertise in Source control and code management (e.g., Git).
  • Solid understanding of System Design principles for scalable data solutions.
  • Experience with Configuration management and related tools.
  • Knowledge of Information Security best practices in a data context.
  • Ability to apply Agility core practices in data engineering workflows.
  • Excellent Collaboration and Communication skills.
  • Experience in Creating a high performing team and Facilitation.
  • Familiarity with Digital Project Management methodologies.
  • Understanding of Service operations and resilience for data platforms.
