Role: Staff Data Engineer

Location: UK (Remote)
Sector: Security

About

Runtime have partnered with a fast-growing, Series C-backed startup building critical infrastructure that powers software delivery for organisations worldwide. Their platform handles massive scale - hundreds of millions of requests a day - and sits at the heart of how modern engineering teams ship, secure and manage software.

They're on a trajectory toward IPO and beyond, and now looking for a Staff Data Engineer to help them re-architect their data platform from the ground up.

The Role

This is a genuinely hands-on Staff role. You'll join a small, high-impact data engineering team (currently two engineers) at a pivotal moment: they're re-architecting their core data platform to process artifact data faster, cut duplication, and move from batch toward true real-time processing.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

You'll act as the technical glue between our data and backend engineering tribes — shaping what gets built next, working greenfield on our streaming architecture, and setting the technical bar for the wider team.

What We're Looking For

  • 6+ years of professional data/software engineering experience, including large-scale data platforms on AWS
  • Hands-on experience with Kafka, CDC pipelines, and Clickhouse (or equivalent OLAP store) at meaningful scale
  • Strong Python and SQL skills, with experience across modern data pipeline tooling (e.g. Postgres, S3, Lambda, Kinesis, dbt)
  • A track record of leading architectural decisions - not just executing on them
  • Comfort operating without a clear playbook, solving novel, system-level problems
  • Genuine curiosity about the data itself - where it comes from and how it's used
  • Confidence to hold a technical position while staying genuinely collaborative - this is a small, close-knit team, and trust matters as much as technical depth
