Founding Backend Engineer | Senior/Staff Level | 3/days per week in London

What you watch, buy, eat and where you travel are increasingly discovered through personalised, visual experiences. Property search still largely means filters, static photos and grids of listings.
I'm exclusively hiring engineers to join a well-funded London startup changing that.
They're building a video-first property platform where users discover homes through full-screen walkthroughs and a personalised feed, then save, share, chat and enquire directly.
They've just closed a multi-million-pound seed round and are already working with a growing network of London property businesses ahead of launch.
Now they're hiring their Founding Backend Engineer - this is where you come in.

You'll work alongside a Founding Product Engineer who'll own much of the React Native consumer experience, while you take ownership of the systems underneath it: core APIs, data architecture, video delivery, real-time features, feeds and personalisation.
They're particularly interested in engineers who have:
- 10+ years of backend engineering experience, ideally including consumer products
- Experienced startup → scale-up growth from inside a small engineering team, and personally dealt with what that growth did to the systems
- Designed and scaled data-intensive systems such as feeds, real-time workflows or high-throughput applications
- Strong architectural judgement and the pragmatism to know when complexity is actually necessary
- Embraced AI development tools as part of how they build software

The stack today is deliberately simple: Postgres / Supabase, Deno, Cloudflare and TypeScript. You'll have a lot of say over how that evolves as the product and user base grow.
They're language agnostic, and previous recommendation-system experience isn't essential.
They're more interested in your underlying engineering judgement than whether you've worked with their exact stack.
This will be one of the most senior technical hires in the business, with the potential to grow into engineering leadership as the team expands.
Compensation: Very healthy six-figure base salary + meaningful equity
Location: London, 3 days/week
