This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff Engineer - Client Experience based in United Kingdom.
This is a senior technical leadership role focused on building robust, scalable systems that support global commerce and complex payment experiences.
You will tackle the most challenging engineering problems while shaping architecture, technical strategy, and long-term platform direction.
The role combines hands-on software development with mentorship, cross-functional leadership, and organization-wide technical influence.
You will work across cloud-native infrastructure, distributed systems, high-throughput services, and modern backend technologies.
As part of an AI-native engineering environment, you will also help define how AI-assisted development is applied across design, implementation, testing, and code review.
Your work will directly influence engineering standards, system reliability, performance, and the ability of teams to deliver complex products effectively.
Success means becoming a trusted technical voice while raising the engineering bar through architecture, mentorship, and consistently high-quality execution.
Accountabilities
- Provide technical leadership across engineering teams by setting high standards for software quality, architecture, reliability, and engineering practices.
- Mentor and coach engineers, support their technical development, and promote a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
- Architect, design, and build robust, scalable, and maintainable systems capable of supporting high-volume, low-latency workloads.
- Lead the resolution of complex technical challenges, applying strong architectural principles, design patterns, and engineering best practices.
- Drive complex, cross-team engineering initiatives from technical discovery through delivery, ensuring alignment with business objectives and timelines.
- Contribute to technical strategy, architecture roadmaps, and long-term engineering priorities in collaboration with product and organizational stakeholders.
- Work closely with Product, Design, and other stakeholders to translate complex technical concepts into clear decisions and actionable plans.
- Improve system performance and scalability through efficient algorithms, clean code, rigorous testing, and continuous technical optimization.
- Establish and promote strong automated testing practices across unit, integration, and end-to-end testing within Agile, DevSecOps, and CI/CD environments.
- Help shape AI-native engineering practices by using AI-assisted tools across development workflows and establishing effective approaches that can be adopted across teams.
- Strengthen engineering standards through technical reviews, tooling improvements, architectural guidance, and the introduction of practices that improve development quality.
- Within the first 6–12 months, take architectural ownership of at least one major system, become a trusted contributor to technical strategy, and demonstrate measurable impact through mentorship and engineering improvements.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
