Job Overview

Would you like to help craft Arm's next generation of hardware platforms and SoC solutions? We seek Electronics Engineers with experience of high-speed, embedded hardware and PCB design to join Arm’s Hardware Platform team, based in Cambridge.

The team is working at the forefront of embedded design focusing on new compute platforms to prototype Arm's latest IP products. We develop physical hardware platforms, based around Arm's custom system-on-chip (SoC) and FPGAs which are used for software development and validation activities for both external partners/customers and our internal development teams.

Responsibilities

  • The specification, design, development, and commissioning of new hardware platforms.
  • Focus on driving design specifications, schematics, and PCB layouts collaborating with cross-functional and geographically distributed teams.
  • Defining PCB routing guidelines, topologies, and initial SI/PI analysis.
  • Delivery focused, with a commitment to continuous improvement!
  • Collaborate with the hardware lead to assist with planning and scheduling estimates to ensure project timescales are met.

Required Skills And Experience

  • Strong understanding of electronics, embedded compute systems, and board design, involving complex, high pin-count SoC and LSI devices such as FPGAs/CPLDs.
  • Expertise in high-speed digital design, detailed knowledge of the latest high-speed IO interface standards (e.g. PCIe Gen 5/6/7 and LPDDR5/6 memory technologies).
  • In-depth knowledge and experience of Signal Integrity and Power Integrity techniques from a holistic board design perspective.
  • Extensive knowledge of PCB stack-up definition, controlled impedance routing guidelines for complex stack-ups and topologies.
  • Strong competence in EDA tools for schematic entry, driving PCB layout from a board-design perspective (Cadence OrCAD CIS, Allegro PCB suite).
  • Embedded hardware debug using laboratory test equipment (e.g. oscilloscopes, logic analysers, power supplies, e-loads, VNAs).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to write coherent design documentation, hardware specifications, and test plans.
  • Delivery focused and committed. A creative and structured approach to problem-solving.
  • Experience in working in a fast-paced environment with the desire to learn new skills.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

  • Experience of one or more high-level programming languages (e.g. C), object-orientated (e.g. C++), Python.
  • Experience with mechanical design concepts and thermal management.

In Return

You will gain a deeper understanding of system architecture and performance. Work alongside other engineering teams including software, SoC implementation, and verification, collaborating and enabling engineers and designers. Extend your board-level design expertise, producing high-quality designs incorporating Arm IP. You will enjoy new technical challenges faced when using advancing technologies!
