Join Frimley Health’s friendly and supportive nursing team in the Day Surgery Unit at Heatherwood Hospital, a modern, state-of-the-art facility dedicated to delivering outstanding patient care.
This is an exciting opportunity for both experienced surgical nurses seeking a new challenge and newly qualified nurses looking to develop their skills within a dynamic surgical environment. Working alongside a forward-thinking multidisciplinary team, you will gain experience across a wide range of day surgery specialties, including orthopaedics, general surgery, minor plastic surgery procedures, pain clinics, and Lithotripsy services, which play a vital role in reducing hospital admissions.
As part of a service that has achieved GIRFT Surgical Hub accreditation, you will be supported to broaden your clinical expertise and develop specialist knowledge in a high-performing surgical setting. Our commitment to innovation is reflected in our use of Electronic Patient Records (EPR), enabling seamless communication and truly integrated patient care across Frimley Health.
The Day Surgery Unit operates Monday to Saturday, 07:00–22:00, offering a varied and rewarding role in a fast-paced environment where patient-centred care is at the heart of everything we do.

Responsibilities
The unit consists of 22 individual patient pods, providing care for patients undergoing both general and local anaesthetic procedures across a variety of surgical specialties. Key responsibilities include:
- Assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating individualised care for patients throughout their day surgery journey.
- Providing safe, effective and compassionate nursing care from admission through to discharge.
- Working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to deliver excellent clinical outcomes and a positive patient experience.
- Supporting the delivery of established, standardised care pathways that enable the successful same-day discharge of the majority of day-case patients.
- Delivering pre-operative and post-operative care, including patient education and discharge planning.
- Contributing to the continued success of the Surgical Hub by maintaining high standards of communication and teamwork across departments.
- Ensuring accurate documentation using the Trust's Electronic Patient Record system and adhering to Trust policies, professional standards and best practice guidelines.
- Supporting a culture of continuous improvement, helping the team maintain the excellent levels of patient satisfaction reflected in regular Friends and Family Test feedback.
