Job Description
As part of our commitment to supporting the next generation of nurses, we are recruiting to a number of rotational posts across the organisation. These roles offer a structured development programme, enabling nurses to experience a range of clinical areas, broaden their skills and explore future career pathways. Rotational placements also help us meet fluctuating service demands during peak periods, ensuring we continue to deliver outstanding care to our patients all year round.
The post holder carries responsibility and accountability for the health care management of their patient group, in collaboration with senior nurses and Team Leaders. The band 5 staff nurse will be responsible for assessing, developing, implementing and evaluating family centred programmes of care.
Management
- Aim to promote high morale within the nursing team by good staff relationships and clear lines of communication.
- Monitor effective use of resources, in collaboration with colleagues.
- Maintain a safe working environment.
- Organise and manage effectively designated area in liaison with shift leader.
- Maintain accurate and contemporaneous patient records in accordance with the NMC and Trust guidelines.
- Record and report accidents/incidents to patients or staff in accordance to Trust guidelines and policy.
- Work in collaboration with the A&E team to ensure that the local and national targets for emergency care are achieved.
Communication
- To promote an effective communication system, both written and verbal, which ensures that a team approach to family centred care is encouraged and adopted.
- Enter appropriate data into EPR (Meditech) in a timely manner and ensure all nurse led screens are completed.
- Participate in relevant departmental meetings and represent the department at Trust wide meetings when appropriate, disseminating information as appropriate.
- Act in a way to promote confidentiality, dignity and trust of patients, parents, carers and other staff members.
- To ensure accurate and confidential documentation is maintained in accordance with the NMC, Trust and departmental guidelines.

Applications are welcomed from experienced children’s nurses / newly qualified children’s nurses / student children’s nurses due to qualify in January 2027, for the Alder Hey Hospital Nursing Recruitment Event taking place on 12th September 2026. We are anticipating a commencement date of Monday 2nd November 2026 or Monday 1st February 2027. We are excited to be recruiting band 5 paediatric nurses to join our fantastic nursing team here at Alder Hey, to care for our children and young people across our various wards and departments. We value the skills and experience you would bring to Alder Hey to further enhance the already outstanding care that we deliver to our patients and their families.
For experienced paediatric nurses we offer a bespoke local induction and preceptorship package to meet your needs, created and overseen by the areas practice educator. For newly qualified nurses we offer a standardised organisation induction, with an agreed supervisory period, to allow us to ensure you can be provided with all required information and training required. We have practice educators who are ward based and will support you during your transition into the qualified nurse role, which will be supported by undertaking the Trust preceptorship programme
