Role Overview
You will assist the unit manager in driving forward quality patient-centered compassionate care and support the team in achieving efficiency and maintaining standards.
Ideal for a Band 5 Nurse
This role is ideal for a band 5 nurse to utilize and enhance their mentoring skills, leadership qualities, time management, and independent working.
Training and Support
- 2 weeks supernumerary
- Work alongside senior nurses and practice development nurses
- Assigned Assessor and Supervisor
Key Responsibilities
- Understand the principles of haemodialysis, including connecting and disconnecting patients
- Commence and discontinue haemodialysis treatment safely
- Line and prime haemodialysis machines, troubleshoot complications, data input, and stripping of machines
- Learn and assess fistulas, including cannulations
- Provide independent holistic care to patients
- Assist and support senior nurses in the daily smooth running of the unit
- Clean equipment such as dialysis machines, beds, and tables
- Monitor patient observations and document findings
- Report any deviations from normal to senior nurses
- Support and mentor healthcare assistants, including appraisals
- Perform AVF assessments and cannulation
- Connect and disconnect to the machine for AVF and AVG patients only
- Prioritize patient care based on individual needs
- Daily checking of the water plant systems, documenting, and reporting appropriately
- Involved in patient education and support ongoing research studies in the unit
- Involved in assessment, planning, and evaluation of care
- Maintain effective communication within the team at all times
- Maintain patient confidentiality at all times
- Ensure and promote the trust policies and protocols are adhered
- Participate in team meetings as required by your team leader
- Ensure your competency documents are signed and dated
