The Role
The Acute Assessment Unit (AAU) at Glasgow Royal Infirmary forms part of the Emergency Care Complex and works closely alongside the Emergency Department to provide timely assessment, treatment, and ongoing care for patients presenting with acute medical conditions. Together, the Emergency Care Complex cares for approximately 300 patients each day.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and compassionate Registered Nurse to develop specialist skills in emergency and acute medical care while receiving ongoing support from experienced senior nursing staff. You will play a vital role in assessing, planning, delivering and evaluating care for a diverse patient population while contributing to positive patient outcomes.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern
- Location: Glasgow Royal Infirmary
- Working Pattern: Monday to Sunday, day & night rotations
- Position Type: Permanent, full-time
Key Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised programmes of care for allocated patients
- Deliver safe, effective and evidence-based nursing care within the Emergency Department and Acute Assessment Unit
- Coordinate seamless patient care from admission to discharge in partnership with multidisciplinary colleagues, carers and community services
- Maintain accurate, timely and professional clinical documentation in line with NMC standards
- Support, supervise and provide guidance to healthcare support workers, student nurses and newly qualified staff
- Contribute to audit, quality improvement activities, risk management and the development of evidence-based practice
- Respond appropriately to deteriorating patient conditions and clinical emergencies while maintaining effective communication with patients and families
Knowledge, Training, Qualifications and/or Experience Required
- Current NMC Registration as a Registered Nurse (Level 1)
- Broad knowledge and understanding of medical nursing practice
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload in a busy emergency care environment
- Ability to work independently whilst recognising when to seek support from senior nursing colleagues
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and continuous learning within the speciality
- Flexibility to participate in rotational shift patterns, including day and night duty, with a good health record
