Job Opportunity

Are you looking for a change in lifestyle whilst having a fulfilling career? Do you want to work in one of the most stunning areas of natural beauty in the UK and make a real difference to your local community providing a high standard of nursing care?

We are looking for Band 5 Registered Nurses to join our established ward team in Portree Hospital.

Portree Hospital Overview

Portree Hospital is a community hospital situated in the North of Skye. It has an inpatient ward and Urgent Care Centre. The ward is led by GP’s from Portree Medical Practice Monday Friday. Out of hours the ward is supported by Broadford Hospital in South Skye. A busy Urgent care centre operates from the hospital and nursing staff assist the Advanced Practitioners as required.

The ward is mixed and provides rehabilitation, End of Life / palliative care, dementia care to patients from the local community. The Registered Nurse will demonstrate a variety of clinical skills for example enteral feeding via PEG, End of Life care, dementia care. Our aim is for patients to reach their rehab potential. Nursing staff play an active role in discharge planning with the goal of the patient being able to return home if possible.

Working in Portree Hospital

Working in Portree Hospital offers staff a sense of job satisfaction. There is time to spend with patients having a chat and ensuring they are able to engage in meaningful activities. It also means that the Registered Nurse has to use their initiative and clinical judgement when the GP’s or Advanced Practitioners are not on site.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
