Medical Infusion Suite at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals (SWBH) NHS Trust
The Medical Infusion Suite at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals (SWBH) NHS Trust is looking for a Band 5 Registered Nurse to support the delivery of high-quality patient care within the service.
The post holder will work as part of the multidisciplinary team to provide safe and effective care to patients receiving infusion therapies, under the supervision and guidance of senior staff. Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting the assessment and monitoring of patients during treatment
- Administering intravenous therapies in line with competency and Trust policies
- Escalating any concerns or changes in patient condition promptly to senior colleagues
The role also involves contributing to the smooth running of the unit by:
- Assisting with patient flow
- Supporting accurate documentation and record keeping
- Ensuring adherence to safety protocols and infection prevention standards
The post holder will work collaboratively with colleagues to maintain a safe and efficient clinical environment. In addition, the Band 5 nurse will:
- Support quality improvement activities where appropriate
- Participate in training and development opportunities
- Assist in the induction of new staff and students under supervision
Essential Requirements
- Being a Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
- Relevant clinical experience
- Competence or willingness to develop skills in IV therapy
- Good communication, organisational, and teamwork skills

The Band 5 nurse will work as part of the ward/department team, supporting the Ward/Department Manager and senior nursing staff in the delivery of safe and effective patient care. The post holder will:
- Develop competence in contributing to the management of the clinical environment
- Support staff attendance processes
- Assist with day-to-day coordination of patient care activities
- Escalate concerns appropriately to senior colleagues
The role involves working collaboratively with the nursing team to support patient flow, including:
- Assisting with admission and discharge processes
- Ensuring timely communication of patient needs to relevant team members
- Contributing to maintaining appropriate skill mix by supporting effective teamwork and highlighting staffing or capacity issues to senior staff for review
The Band 5 nurse will support the safe and economical use of ward resources by:
- Following Trust policies for stock use and ordering
- Escalating shortages or supply issues to senior staff within agreed procedures
- Assisting in maintaining a safe and supportive ward environment by reporting local issues, contributing to team communication, and escalating concerns or conflicts to senior nurses or the Ward Manager
