Staff Nurse – Medical Surgical Inpatient Units

Location: Dublin, Ireland
Job Type: Permanent | Full-Time

We are currently seeking a Staff Nurse – Medical Surgical Inpatient Units to join a leading hospital in Dublin, Ireland. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated nurse to work in a dynamic clinical environment delivering high-quality patient care.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing safe, effective, and patient-centred nursing care while working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary healthcare team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, effective, and patient-centred nursing care to assigned patients, working independently within professional standards and NMBI guidelines.
  • Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments, take patient histories, identify care needs, and develop and implement appropriate nursing interventions.
  • Administer medications and treatments safely in accordance with medical orders, hospital policies, and relevant nursing standards.
  • Monitor, assess, and document patients’ clinical condition, including changes in physiological status, symptoms, behaviours, and responses to treatment.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential nursing and patient records in accordance with hospital policies and professional requirements.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with medical, nursing, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure high standards of patient care and promptly report any changes in patient condition.
  • Maintain high standards of infection prevention and control, including aseptic and isolation procedures, while ensuring a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
  • Provide patient and family education, promote understanding of care plans, and ensure patients’ dietary, personal, and individual needs are appropriately addressed.
  • Participate in ward operations, including staff communication, duty roster planning, equipment safety, complaint management, performance reviews, and rotation across specialties as required.
  • Support clinical leadership by supervising and delegating appropriate duties, deputising for the Clinical Coordinator when required, maintaining professional development, and completing mandatory training such as BLS and ACLS.

Requirements

  • Current NMBI registration as a Registered General Nurse (RGN).
  • Minimum 1 year of surgical ward experience is preferred, with recent and relevant experience in an acute hospital setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong teamwork, motivation, initiative, and an innovative approach to nursing practice.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate information clearly, concisely, and professionally.
  • Strong planning, organisational, prioritisation, and time-management skills, with the ability to manage competing clinical demands effectively.
  • Flexible and adaptable approach to work, including internal rotations, rostering, night duty, and theatre on-call requirements.
  • Sound knowledge of current developments, best practices, and relevant national strategies within the specialised area of nursing.
