Paediatric Staff Nurse (Emergency Department)

Location: Frimley Park Hospital

Department: Paediatric Emergency Department

Position Type: Permanent full-time


We have an exciting opportunity for experienced and enthusiastic Paediatric Staff Nurse to join our supportive, dynamic, and forward-thinking team in the Paediatric Emergency Department at Frimley Park Hospital.

Our department sees approximately 30,000 children annually, aged 0–17 years, presenting with a wide range of conditions from minor injuries and illnesses to major trauma and resuscitation. Patient safety and high-quality, child-centred care are at the heart of everything we do.

Frimley Park Hospital is proud of its strong local and national reputation for delivering consistently high standards of clinical care. A key factor in this success is our commitment to ongoing staff training and professional development.

You will be supported by a dedicated Practice Development Lead and a structured Staff Nurse Development Programme, helping you build key emergency nursing skills.

This role is open to newly qualified nurses graduating in September 2026.

Responsibilities

  • To work as part of a team of nurses, healthcare assistants, and the wider multidisciplinary team and be responsible for the assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating of nursing care.
  • To give and receive regular reports on the progress of patients, reporting any changes, immediately to the NIC.
  • To participate in the checking and administration of prescribed and controlled drugs in accordance with Trust policy, including IV medication.
  • To always maintain confidentiality.
  • To maintain a learning environment enabling students and Newly Qualified Nurses (NQN's) to achieve their learning objectives.
  • To act as a role model to all.
  • To act as a resource for the ED for child protection issues.
  • To ensure all equipment is in good working order and ready for immediate use. Report any defects.
  • To report any untoward events/problems affecting patients or staff and complete an incident report.
  • To be up to date with all statutory and mandatory training.
  • To assist in the achievement of the department's performance indicators.
  • Any other duties, which may be requested by the manager, to facilitate a smooth running of the department.
