Job Overview
The RUH Pain Clinic is a welcoming and forward-thinking secondary care outpatient service, supported by a dedicated multidisciplinary team. We care for adults living with chronic pain, offering specialist assessment, diagnosis and treatment where possible, while empowering patients to build confidence in self-management so they can improve their quality of life.
As a key resource within the Trust and wider healthcare community, our service plays an important role in raising awareness and understanding of chronic pain. We pride ourselves on delivering care that reflects the Trust’s vision and values, national guidance and local commissioning priorities, using a holistic biopsychosocial approach.
We are excited to offer an opportunity for a Band 5 Staff Nurse to join our fantastic team. This is a full-time role working Monday to Friday (37.5 hours per week), with a supportive environment where you can develop specialist skills and contribute to high-quality patient care.
If you are a hardworking, compassionate and enthusiastic nurse who enjoys working collaboratively and delivering excellent standards of care, we would love to hear from you. Join us and be part of a friendly, motivated team committed to making a real difference to the lives of people living with chronic pain.
Main duties of the job
In this role, you will provide high-quality, individualized care to patients attending the Pain Clinic, supporting the smooth and safe running of our day-case procedure list. Working across our theatre and recovery areas, you will play a key part in maintaining patient safety, managing equipment and ensuring clinic supplies are well-maintained and available.
You will work closely with our multidisciplinary team, contributing to the delivery of the Pain Management Programme and supporting patients throughout their treatment journey. The role also includes running nurse-led treatment clinics, responding to patient queries by telephone and helping to ensure the effective day-to-day operation of the wider Chronic Pain Service.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
