We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 Staff Nurse on the Elective Surgery Hub at Shrewsbury (SESH). The successful applicants will gain experience in caring for patients with a wide variety of Surgical conditions.

SESH is an extremely busy unit providing care to all elective surgical patients on the Shrewsbury site, both day cases and inpatients.

You will be flexible in your approach to the role and respond appropriately to the demands of an ever-changing workload.

Please note interviews will be held on Friday September 25th PM.

Main duties of the job

• Responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of individualised patient care, working in partnership with patients, their carers, and the multi-disciplinary team to ensure the patient’s physical, spiritual, and emotional needs are met.
• Formulate and deliver high-quality patient care without direct supervision.
• Recognise changes in patients’ conditions which require the intervention of others and ensure that timely referrals are made or escalation procedures enacted as appropriate.
• Ensure patient safety is maintained at all times. Record and report adverse and potentially adverse events and assist with the investigation of such events, ensuring learning is shared with the wider team(s).
• Record information about patients in a safe, accurate, and consistent manner using appropriate tools and techniques, including electronic and written formats as close to the point of care as possible.
• Access and use patient clinical diagnostic information to inform clinical decisions.
