About the Role
Our department brings together three specialties, offering a varied nursing role caring for patients undergoing investigations, receiving medical treatment or recovering from surgery.
Urology focuses on conditions affecting the urinary system, including the kidneys, bladder and prostate. Nephrology involves caring for people with kidney conditions, while neurosciences cover conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord and nervous system.
Patients may need support with pain, mobility, personal care or changes to their independence. Others may feel anxious about a diagnosis, procedure or what their recovery will involve. Taking time to listen, explain and provide reassurance will be an important part of your role.
Working with the Ward Manager, senior nurses, consultants and wider clinical team, you will assess patients' needs, deliver individualised care and monitor their progress. You will help patients prepare for treatment, support them throughout their stay and contribute to a safe discharge.
This is an opportunity to broaden your experience across specialist medical and surgical nursing while building positive relationships with patients and their families.
Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, deliver and evaluate individualised nursing care, taking account of each patient's physical and emotional needs.
- Prepare patients for investigations and procedures and provide care before and after surgery.
- Monitor patients' recovery, recognise changes in their condition and escalate concerns promptly.
- Support pain management, mobility, nutrition, personal care and recovery, helping patients maintain their dignity and independence.
- Administer medicines safely and provide treatment within your assessed competencies.
- Communicate clearly with patients and relatives, helping them understand their care and feel involved in decisions.
- Work closely with consultants and the multidisciplinary team to coordinate treatment and discharge planning.
- Maintain accurate electronic patient records and provide clear handovers.
- Support Healthcare Assistants, students and colleagues, sharing knowledge and contributing to a positive team environment.
- Follow infection prevention and patient safety procedures and contribute to audits and improvements in care.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
