Staff Product Designer

Department: Design
Employment Type: Full Time
Location: Remote
Reporting To: Head of Design

Description

Hi 👋 I'm Elvin, Head of Design at Pinpoint.

We're a high growth HR tech company building software that helps in-house recruitment teams attract, hire, and onboard the right talent. Today we have a strong foundation in place: a mature product, rapid growth, strong product market fit, and happy customers.

Inside Pinpoint sits a part of the product most ATSs don't have: background checks, right to work, reference checks, one way video interviews and the credits and billing that power them. We call it Marketplace. It's the squad behind the revenue that scales with how much customers use us, and an important strategic bet towards continued growth.

For the past two quarters I've been its designer, its PM and the Head of Design at the same time. The next phase is harder than what we've already shipped, and it needs someone whose whole job it is, which is why we're hiring a Staff Product Designer.

You'll be the only designer on the Marketplace squad, working alongside our Head of Commercial Product (the squad's PM), our Tech Lead, a Senior Product Engineer, and our Head of Roadmap Engineering.

The fine print

  • 100% remote. You can be based in the UK, Portugal, Spain or Poland, working UK hours, with a few in-person team meetups a year. We're headquartered in Jersey with a team of 100 across the UK, EU and US.
  • The product is a set of status-driven workflows: a check gets ordered, a vendor or a regulator decides what happens next, and the design has to handle every outcome, including the ones that fail. Our third-party vendors set what's possible and the compliance rules are fixed, so you'll spend as much time understanding how a vendor actually behaves as you do in Figma.
  • AI is how we work, not a tool we're trialling. I ship my own PRs through Claude Code now, and I hadn't shipped one 3 months ago. You don't need to have done that yet, but you do need to be using AI across your work today and to want to learn.
  • There's no research function. Decisions have been quick and under pressure for a while. We want someone who can make a good call fast and who also pulls the squad toward research-backed judgment as the norm.
  • Our values actually matter here. We hire people who reflect them in how they work, collaborate, and make decisions.

What you'll do

  • Own design for every usage-based feature in Pinpoint, end to end: from the first conversation with a vendor or customer, through the spec and the design, to shipped and measured.
  • Ship the next phase of Pinpoint Checks: DBS update service with automated routing, rechecks, sending check data to downstream systems, decision and audit flows, and the UK high compliance checks that follow.
  • Turn credits from something customers are given into something they understand and use. Credit visibility, self-serve costing and in-platform credit management are being scoped now and they are yours to design.
  • Shape Marketplace product strategy with the PM going into 2027, then execute on it. Discovery here is shared between you and the PM, not handed to you.
  • Write the plan into the ticket before anything is built: the decisions made, the edge cases covered, the questions closed, so an engineer (or you) can build it with Claude without a second round of questions.
  • Prototype in code where it beats Figma, submit your own PRs for small front-end fixes, and QA what ships.
  • Be the person Support, Sales and Legal come to when a check is stuck or a customer asks what a vendor does with their data. You'll know the domain better than almost anyone in the company within 90 days.
  • Bring Marketplace work to weekly design crit and feed new patterns (status cards, order flows, decision recording) back into Thumbtack, our design system.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

What you'll bring

  • Experience designing complex B2B software products alongside a PM and engineers, with shipped work to show for it. Owning an area as the sole or lead designer is a plus.
  • Startup or scale-up experience and the mentality that comes with it: small teams, few handoffs, and a willingness to do whatever the product needs that week.
  • Hands-on work designing around constraints set by someone else: a regulator, a compliance rule or a third-party vendor's API. Background screening, identity, fintech, payments, insurance and legal are the obvious homes for it, and comparable complexity elsewhere counts.
  • Multi-state workflows in the portfolio, such as orders, cases, applications and checks, where the system decides the next step and the design has to handle the moments when it can't.
  • Familiarity with what changes at enterprise scale: permissions, configuration, multiple personas, and flows that hold up at 10 users and at 10,000.
  • Daily use of AI across the whole job rather than only to produce screens faster, covering research, testing, investigating bugs, prototyping and documenting, plus the technical depth and appetite to learn to ship small PRs with Claude Code.
  • Production-ready UI craft that clears a high bar, shown in the portfolio.
  • Ownership of the call when the data isn't there: deciding, explaining the reasoning, owning the outcome, and solving the problem in front of you whether or not it is strictly a design problem. Over time, pulling the squad towards research-backed judgment as the norm.
  • Fluency in commercial outcomes, so margin, adoption and conversion get discussed as naturally as flows and components.
  • Bonus points for HR tech or ATS experience, and for credits, billing or usage-based pricing.

You may not enjoy this role if

  • You want a research team, a brief and a backlog handed to you. Here you write the brief.
  • You're waiting to see how the AI thing plays out before changing how you work.
  • You'd rather own the design system or lead a team. This is an IC role on one squad, and Thumbtack governance stays with me.
  • Your portfolio is agency work or consumer apps only. Marketplace serves enterprise customers ordering checks at volume, and the panel will test for it.

What we offer

We want Pinpoint to be the best place you've ever worked, somewhere you feel valued, supported and excited to grow. Here's what you get:

  • Comprehensive healthcare: excellent medical, dental and vision coverage for you and your family.
  • Unlimited holidays: take the time you need to rest and recharge.
  • Mental health support: unlimited, immediate access to professional counselling via Spill.
  • Retirement contributions: 401k or pension contributions depending on your location.
  • Remote first: work where you're most productive, with flexibility and trust as the default.
  • Equity with real upside: share in the long-term value you help create.
  • Fully paid parental leave: up to 16 weeks of paid leave for new parents.
  • Learning budget: annual funds for courses, books or anything that supports your growth.
  • A detailed overview of our benefits is here.

What does success look like in the first 90 days?

  • By 30 days you can answer a Support question about a stuck check without me.
  • By 60 you own one of the Q4 items end to end with the plan written into Linear.
  • By 90 I'm out of Marketplace standups and you're the named design owner on the Marketplace roadmap.

What tools do you use?

Figma, Thumbtack (our design system in Figma and Storybook), Claude and Claude Code, Linear, Fibery, PostHog, Notion and Slack. The product is Rails and React with TypeScript.
