Overview
You own the international tax domain end to end: you set product strategy for the tax capability area, expand business requirements into durable capability strategies rather than one-off market builds, and navigate cross-team dynamics across engineering, legal, and compliance to ship it. You solve ambiguous, cross-market problems using data and AI methodology, not just domain memory, and you use AI to turn scattered market and regulatory signal into product opportunities other people haven't framed yet.
The Staff Product Manager, Tax International role sits between the Tax & Accounting domain, Legal, and the product and engineering organization. It owns a centralized, AI-powered tax compliance layer that turns country-specific indirect and direct tax rules into reusable configurations, replacing slow, costly, country-by-country manual work that leaves Intuit and its customers exposed.
Responsibilities
- Own the AI-native tax compliance platform
- Builds the centralized, reusable tax layer that lets every market be a configuration, not a rebuild.
- Own the relationship with the US Based central teams/functions
- Design and own the roadmap for a centralized, AI-powered compliance platform that abstracts country-specific indirect tax, direct tax, and regulatory filing rules into reusable, scalable configurations across 100+ markets.
- Champion a policy-as-code model: treat government tax requirements as structured data that AI can ingest, validate, and deploy, replacing slow, per-country manual configuration.
- Define the AI + Human Intelligence (AI+HI) pipeline where it fits: how official government tax sources are ingested, how AI generates compliance configurations, and where human tax-expert review checkpoints apply.
- Partner with core capability teams to eliminate US hardcode and US-specific dependencies that create international tax risk.
- Own the tax engine consolidation path. Today indirect tax runs across six separate codebases and direct tax (Books-to-Tax) runs across three separate engines, with filing capability limited to UK MTD, partial US, and Australia through a partner. Drive the architectural decision (extend an existing engine, build new, or adopt a partner platform) and the multi-year consolidation roadmap, including known hard problems like the UK Flat Rate Scheme and Canada's federal/provincial split.
- Act as the product owner at the legal/engineering intersection, shaping technical direction rather than just brokering between teams, and set sequencing and investment priorities across Tier 1 and expansion markets.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

-
Modernize Indirect Tax
- Delivers AI-powered VAT/GST/sales-tax experiences on a reusable foundation.
- Deliver AI-powered tax review, live tax rates and forms, and enhanced VAT/GST/sales-tax experiences.
- Build a reusable rates-and-forms platform and AI transaction-level tax classification so new markets inherit the capability by configuration.
- Use Singapore GST F5/F8 as the reference implementation on the unified tax engine, and sequence Malaysia GST and UAE VAT behind it on the same architecture.
- Grow indirect-tax adoption in priority markets, starting with the workflows customers rely on most.
-
Build AI-powered Direct Tax
- Extends the platform from indirect tax into direct tax on the same configuration model.
- Ship AI corporate tax estimates and annual tax-year updates on a reusable Direct Tax (Books-to-Tax) foundation.
- Own the B2T platform proof: Singapore Form C-S/C-S Lite as the first jurisdiction live on the unified engine, carried through a full jurisdiction-config lifecycle so the second market is a configuration, not a rebuild.
- Hold working knowledge of book-to-tax adjustments, entity-type tax treatment (corporation, trust, partnership, proprietorship), depreciation and loss-carryforward logic, and corporate filing schema literacy (1120, T2, CT600, and market equivalents).
- Own cross-border direct tax mechanics as multinational SMB customers scale: withholding tax and treaty rates, permanent establishment, transfer pricing basics, and Pillar Two awareness.
- Track UK Making Tax Digital (MTD) filing and payment acceptance rate as a standing compliance metric, including the seasonal ITSA reporting cycle.
-
Lead cross-functionally and set the bar
- Aligns the mission team and holds the platform to measurable outcomes.
- Unite an extended mission team across Product Development, Design (XD), Data Science, Product Marketing, Legal, and Finance behind a shared tax-platform vision.
- Manage external relationships with tax authorities (e.g., HMRC) and third-party tax vendors where needed and the strategy is to partner vs build (Fonoa, Sovos, Avalara-class).
- Define and hold the platform accountable to metrics and SLAs: onboarding cycle time, compliance coverage by market, filing error rates, tax-product adoption, and cost-per-country.
- Fast-follow US quarterly releases while owning market-differentiating localization, extensibility, and compliance depth.

Qualifications
Domain
- Experience leading global or international platform expansion: building core services and tax compliance infrastructure for multiple non-native markets.
- Strong grounding in both indirect tax (VAT/GST/sales tax) and direct/corporate tax for SMB and mid-market customers: book-to-tax logic, entity-type treatment, cross-border withholding and treaty mechanics, and digital filing regimes such as UK MTD.
- Experience building for SMB and mid-market customers at a company with an ecosystem of products and services.
Functional
- Expertise designing global platform architecture that abstracts complex regional tax requirements (indirect and direct) into scalable, reusable components.
- Fluency applying AI/GenAI to real tax product problems: AI+HI workflows, structured-data ingestion, agentic automation.
- Ability to tell a config change (rate table, schema, form variant) apart from a genuine capability gap (new module, new workflow) without needing engineering to make that call for you.
- Comfortable reading primary-source tax law and filing schemas directly, not just secondary summaries.
- Exceptional at prioritization, able to translate tax complexity into data-driven decisions across a large, matrixed organization.
Leadership
- Owns a domain end to end: sets product strategy for international tax and delivers it across engineering, legal, and compliance.
- Ability to influence beyond the direct team, across the portfolio and up to executive leadership.
- A quality champion with a high bar for consistency, comfortable with ambiguity, driven by customer obsession and a growth mindset.
