Staff Backend Engineer

How will you impact?
As a Staff Backend Engineer at Parser, you will join a strategic greenfield program driving the design, development, and implementation of a next-generation customer fulfillment platform. You will build high-performance microservices, apply deep expertise in asynchronous messaging and latency management, and exert holistic decision-making influence to establish core technical standards and optimize warehouse operations.
Your key responsibilities:
Your responsibilities include, but not limited to:
- Architect, build, and optimize high-performance microservices and distributed systems for mission-critical services.
- Exert holistic technical leadership across greenfield software initiatives, establishing clear design pattern rationale and technical quality standards.
- Apply deep expertise in asynchronous messaging, event-driven architectures, and latency management to achieve high throughput and reliability.
- Develop and integrate APIs and microservices with enterprise API and third-party platforms while maintaining clean, maintainable, and well-documented code.
- Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues in real-time to ensure uninterrupted operations.
- Utilize modern Agentic AI platforms (such as Tab 9 and Gemini) to streamline developer workflows and maintain lean team efficiency.
- Collaborate closely with on-site operations teams, cross-functional teams, hardware specialists, and data scientists to align software design with operational objectives.
- Mentor junior engineers and foster a culture of continuous improvement and engineering excellence.

What you'll bring to the role:
Essential Requirements:
- Deep core fluency in Java 21, modern functional idioms, Spring Boot, and performance patterns.
- Extensive experience with Apache Kafka, asynchronous messaging, event-driven architecture, and low-latency considerations.
- Strong knowledge of SQL and NoSQL platforms, specifically PostgreSQL and Couchbase.
- Hands-on experience with cloud and container technologies including Azure, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Proven experience building and supporting reliable, operationally robust full-stack and distributed Java products using Agile methodologies.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and apply appropriate design patterns (such as CQRS and eventual consistency), practice TDD, and model complex problem domains.
- Practical understanding of CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Azure Pipelines, GitHub Actions, Jenkins) and automated development practices.
- Experience or adaptability with modern Agentic AI tools (such as Tab 9 and Gemini) to enhance developer productivity.

Desirable Requirements:
- Previous experience contributing within globally distributed software engineering teams.
- Hands-on experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Splunk, AppDynamics, or New Relic.
Location:
Welwyn Garden City: The role requires three days a week at the office (Hybrid working model).
