The Role — Interstellar Squad
Staff Software Engineer
Team: Interstellar Squad
At Wireless Logic, we’re seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the mission-critical billing pipeline for our IoT customers. This is a role where technical vision, scalability, and architectural evolution are core.
Key Responsibilities
- Set and communicate a technical vision for the squad’s services, aligning with product and business goals, translating them into actionable work.
- Lead the incremental modernisation of a mature, monolithic platform into TypeScript-based domain services using a strangler-fig pattern, ensuring seamless extraction and performance.
- Define and enforce engineering standards for code quality, testing, observability, and reliability in both legacy and new services.
- Own complex technical decisions end-to-end, balancing trade-offs, documenting choices, and aligning teams.
- Design distributed, data-intensive billing workflows focused on correctness, scalability, and reliability.
- Lead SLO/SLI design for Grafana-based monitoring and ensure production stability.
- Drive CI/CD best practices, keeping cycle times short and releases safe for all components.
- Raise team performance through impactful code reviews, mentorship, and modern practices.
- Champion AI-assistance in development while keeping human oversight intact.
- Collaborate closely with Product, Delivery, and Engineering Leads to balance technical insight with cross-team execution.
- Represent the squad in cross-domain technical discussions, shaping broader engineering direction.

Key Experience & Skills
Required
✅ Experience leading squad-level technical direction beyond IC contributions. ✅ Strong backend experience with Node.js / TypeScript (ideally NestJS), PHP 8.x (Symfony), or related stacks. ✅ Proven ability to modernise/break down monolithic systems using techniques like strangler-fig, dual-write, and anti-corruption layers. ✅ Expertise in distributed systems, event-driven architectures (RabbitMQ, Kafka, SQS) and idempotent/metering/rating workflows. ✅ Deep PostgreSQL knowledge (query optimization, indexing, sharding) with scalability in distributed database environments. ✅ Experience owning CI/CD pipelines and release strategies in GitLab-like environments. ✅ Seasoned hand in advanced observability (metrics, tracing, logs) and SLO-driven production management. ✅ Strong communication skills for explaining technical trade-offs to diverse audiences. ✅ Experience mentoring engineers for growth. ✅ Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development (e.g., Cursor, GitHub Copilot), understanding when and how to wield it safely.

Preferred
Nice-to-have: ❓ Prior experience guiding a PHP → TypeScript/Node transition. ✂️ Advanced TypeScript architecture knowledge with hand-on generics, DI patterns, and type design. ⬡ Mastery of Symfony monorepos and contraction layer strategies. ⚙️ Domain expertise in billing, or metering/rating/tariff. 🔗 Familiarity with AWS (ECS, S3, Parameter Store, SES). ● Exposure to OEMs/ML in production.
