As part of the M&S Software Engineering team, you’ll be joining a well-loved historic brand, working on solutions that serve millions of loyal customers and thousands of colleagues. With ethical values that run right through the company’s core and technology leaders that truly understand software engineering, it’s an exciting time as we’re redefining ourselves into a digital-first, engineering-led organisation, with the quality of our engineering team being a key differentiator.
This role sits within our Warehouse Platform team, supporting the Fashion, Home & Beauty (FH&B) Supply Chain & Logistics sub-domain, a core part of M&S’s growth plans. You will help shape and improve the core warehouse technology that keeps site operations running, building robust, scalable solutions across Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and related platforms. Working within a modern engineering environment, you’ll drive technical direction, improve reliability, reduce operational support demand over time, and deliver solutions with strong observability, meaningful metrics and best-in-class engineering practices.
We are looking for a passionate and experienced engineer who can combine deep technical expertise with strong leadership and mentoring capabilities, helping to shape the future of warehouse technology while supporting the growth and development of the wider engineering community.
Due to high interest, this role may close earlier than advertised. We recommend applying as soon as possible.

- Lead the design and implementation of scalable software solutions and third-party integrations, working closely with Architecture teams to deliver sustainable outcomes.
- Conduct thorough code reviews to ensure maintainability, automated testing coverage, performance and adherence to engineering standards while fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Collaborate closely with business stakeholders, product managers and engineers to understand challenges and design effective, scalable technology solutions.
- Mentor and coach engineers at all levels, sharing expertise, enabling growth and supporting the development of high-performing engineering teams.
- Drive operational excellence through monitoring, alerting, incident management and continuous service improvements, ensuring lessons learned are incorporated into future development.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
