Job Summary

We are MHCLG

The Buildings, Fire and Resilience Group within the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) is responsible for shaping, regulating and improving the safety of the built environment. This work has significant impact on residents, the wider economy and future generations.

Following the Grenfell Tower fire, the remediation programme was established to ensure that residential buildings are safe, and that residents feel safe in their homes. Initially focused on buildings with Grenfell-type ACM cladding, the programme has since expanded to address unsafe cladding across high- and medium-rise buildings, reflecting the scale of the challenge.

This is an important role within the remediation programme, with a focus on stakeholder engagement and resident voice. The post-holder will support engagement with campaign groups and key stakeholders, helping to ensure that resident perspectives are understood and reflected in policy development and delivery. The role will involve handling sensitive issues and working across teams in a fast-paced and evolving environment.

We are a supportive and collaborative team. We welcome applications from candidates from ethnic minority backgrounds and other underrepresented groups, as we seek to better reflect the communities we serve.

Job Description

As the Stakeholder Engagement - Senior Executive Officer you will:

  • Manage relationships with key campaign groups, ensuring resident perspectives are effectively represented and embedded in policy development.
  • Contribute to the management of relationships with industry bodies and other stakeholders to ensure a consistent two-way flow of information, including producing and circulating an external newsletter.
  • Coordinate engagement between Ministers, senior officials and external stakeholders, including shaping agendas, commissioning inputs and ensuring clear and timely follow-up on actions.
  • Own the tracking, management and escalation of stakeholder issues, ensuring they are handled appropriately, progressed at pace and communicated clearly to senior colleagues.
  • Produce high-quality, concise briefings for Ministers and senior officials, synthesising stakeholder views, identifying emerging risks and setting out clear advice.
  • Lead coordination of cross-cutting stakeholder issues, working across policy and delivery teams to ensure alignment, consistency of messaging and effective information sharing.

Person specification

Essential Criteria

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders, including residents and campaign groups.
  • Experience of supporting stakeholder engagement, including handling sensitive or complex issues.
  • Ability to summarise complex information clearly and produce concise written briefings for senior audiences.
  • Good organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and follow through on actions.
  • Sound judgement and the ability to handle sensitive issues appropriately.
  • A proactive and flexible approach, with the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams to share information and support delivery.
  • Knowledge of building safety and remediation issues, or the ability to develop this knowledge quickly.

Alongside your salary of £45,773, Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government contributes £13,260 towards you being a member of the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme. Find out what benefits a Civil Service Pension provides (opens in a new window).

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
