Stamping Die Toolmaker
Location: Castle Bromwich
Contract: Inside IR35 | Ongoing | With opportunities to go permanent
Shift Pattern: 3 Shift Rotation
Rate: £40.12 per hour (Umbrella PAYE)
The Opportunity
We are recruiting for an experienced Stamping Die Toolmaker to support a major automotive manufacturing operation based in Castle Bromwich. Working within a high-volume press shop environment, you will be responsible for maintaining, repairing and improving complex stamping dies to ensure optimum production performance, quality and uptime.
This is an excellent contract opportunity for a skilled toolmaker with a strong automotive background and experience supporting large transfer, tandem or progression press tooling.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform planned and reactive maintenance on stamping and press tooling.
- Diagnose tooling issues and carry out repairs to minimise production downtime.
- Strip, inspect, repair and rebuild complex press tools.
- Support continuous improvement activities aimed at improving tool reliability, quality and productivity.
- Conduct tool try-outs and assist with tooling modifications and engineering changes.
- Liaise with production, maintenance and engineering teams to resolve manufacturing issues.
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with health and safety procedures and quality standards.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.

Candidate Requirements
The successful Stamping Die Toolmaker will ideally possess:
- Proven experience within an automotive manufacturing environment.
- Strong background in press tooling, stamping dies and associated maintenance activities.
- Experience working with XL tools.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and tooling specifications.
- Knowledge of fault-finding, repair and tool improvement techniques.
- Experience supporting high-volume production environments.
- Experience of manual machining, TIG Welding and working with press tools up to 50 tonnes.
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety requirements within manufacturing.

Desirable Experience
The ideal Stamping Die Toolmaker will also have:
- Experience supporting Body-in-White (BIW) manufacturing operations.
- Skin panel experience.
- Experience working on outer body panels and appearance-critical components.
- Exposure to large transfer press or tandem press environments.
- Knowledge of tooling modification and continuous improvement projects.
This role would suit a highly skilled Stamping Die Toolmaker looking to apply their automotive tooling expertise within a fast-paced manufacturing environment supporting critical production operations. The successful Stamping Die Toolmaker will play a key role in maintaining production efficiency, tooling performance and quality standards.
Please note, this role is deemed inside of IR35. The Umbrella Pay Rate offered is inclusive of the Assignment pay rate, holiday pay and Apex Recruitment's contribution towards Employer Costs.
