Workplace: Manchester - expectation is 5 days in the Studios & Offices

Roles Info:

  • 1x Permanent contract - Contract to start in November 2026
  • 1x 12 Months FTC (Maternity Cover)

The team & the role:

Coronation Street has an amazing opportunity for 2 standby Art Directors to join our busy, creative Art Department. As Standby Art Director, you will need to prep for and oversee the design shooting requirements for a block working alongside the Art Director and Director. You will be expected to deliver all these requirements, allocating work to team members and taking responsibility for the smooth running of the shooting day in terms of scenery, dressing and props. You will facilitate the Production Designer’s creative vision for all the sets and locations and be a key player in creating and maintaining Coronation Street’s visual identity.

Skills you’ll need (minimum criteria)

  • Previous drama experience as a Standby Art Director is a requirement.
  • Proven ability to work flexibly and to tight deadlines.
  • Proven ability to get to location on time
  • Ability to demonstrate strong IT literate skills, working on a shared drive and the ability to embrace new technology/software packages.
  • Ability to demonstrate the understanding of continuity where relevant to Design.
  • Proven ability and willingness to undertake the Art Director role when required and to make design decisions on their behalf

Other things we’re looking for (key criteria)

  • An artistic and accurate eye for detail.
  • Excellent Organisation Skills.
  • Strong Interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with the cast and crew either verbally or in writing (emails)
  • Calm and controlled manner in dealing with immediate, unplanned demands on set.
  • Ability to cover the Art Director Role when required is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of technical drawing skills needed to produce simple technical drawings and location plans are advantageous.
  • Possess the ability to make decisions, problem-solve and demonstrate good time management on-set.
  • Basic knowledge of relevant Health & Safety legislation - training will be given
  • Self-motivated with the ability to motivate others and work successfully in a team.
  • Knowledge of other departments (lighting; sound; cameras) and how these areas impact on the look and design of the sets and locations.
  • Ability to make models / props are advantageous.
  • Knowledge of Adobe photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Vectorworks drawing packages are advantageous.
  • A degree ( Equivalent or similar ) in an Art & Design based discipline is advantageous.
