About the role
SOLM is an early-stage deep-tech company building a new category of computing infrastructure. We're looking for someone who builds, a high-agency person who takes a well-defined, hard problem and turns it into something working. You'll work directly with the founder and technical team, moving between engineering, research, and the practical work of getting a hard thing off the ground.
We're hiring for disposition more than for a fixed slot: the role will take shape around what you're strongest at. Some of the people who came through this door became engineers; the point is to find someone exceptional and build the role around them. If you like getting your hands into technical systems, learning fast, and shipping, this is a ground-floor seat on something genuinely novel.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Your very own career expert that helps elevate your application to the next level.
- Prototype, implement, and get things working, from experiments to internal tools to parts of the build itself.
- Work closely with engineering and research to move the core forward, closing the gaps between people and pieces.
- Turn dense technical and scientific material into clear, actionable briefs and documentation.
- Set up tooling, wrangle data, coordinate the practical machinery that keeps a small team moving fast.
- Take on whatever's highest-priority and unblock it, the scope will grow as you do.
What we're looking for
- You build things. You can take a clear goal and produce working output, comfortable getting into code, technical systems, or data, and learning what you don't yet know.
- Strong technical and analytical instincts; able to understand complex engineering or scientific systems and contribute to them, not just describe them.
- High ownership and self-direction, you find the work and do it, remotely and asynchronously across time zones.
- Clear, structured communication; you make things legible to the rest of the team.
- Genuine pull toward deep-tech, AI, or computational systems. Start-up, lab, or research experience a strong plus.
- Degree or equivalent hands-on experience in a technical or scientific field (engineering, CS, natural sciences, or adjacent) or the demonstrated ability to do the work regardless of how you got there.
- Eligible to work as an independent contractor in the relevant jurisdiction, and up for a role that evolves as the company grows.
