STE4 - Examiner
Location: Eastern
Salary: Competitive
Contract Type: Permanent
Working Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday
We're looking for an experienced Structural Examiner to carry out detailed examinations of structures across the rail infrastructure.
You'll assess structural condition, identify defects and deterioration, and produce accurate reports using photographs, sketches, and digital records. Working to Ground Control procedures and Network Rail standards, you'll play an important role in supporting the safe management of critical rail assets.
What you'll do
- Carry out structural examinations in line with Ground Control and Network Rail standards.
- Assess structural condition and identify defects, damage, movement, and deterioration.
- Record findings using notes, measurements, photographs, sketches, and digital systems.
- Produce clear and accurate examination reports.
- Identify and escalate serious or potentially dangerous defects.
- Plan examination activities, including access, equipment, and resources.
- Work with Enabling Works and site teams to support safe delivery.
- Undertake work at height, rope access, confined spaces, or over water where trained and authorized.
- Support improvements to examination methods, reporting, and digital processes.
- Work effectively with operational teams, clients, and other stakeholders.
- Provide mentoring and support to developing STE personnel.

What we're looking for
- Experience in rail, civil engineering, or structural examination.
- Knowledge of structural defects, deterioration, and condition assessment.
- Understanding of railway operations, track safety, and access planning.
- Knowledge of NR/L3/CIV/006 and NR/L2/CIV/1000.
- Strong reporting, observation, and analytical skills.
- Confident using digital reporting systems.
- Strong communication and teamwork.
- Full UK driving licence.
Essential:
- PTS
- STE4 Structures Examination competence
- IRATA Level 1 or Level 3
- Working at Height medical
- First Aid
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable:
- COSS/IWA, PASMA, IPAF, LOLER, NRSWA Supervisor, CSCS Supervisor, IOSH/SMSTS, OS19/OS21, water/boat handling, environmental, and confined space qualifications.
