Wage £16,640 to £26,436.80, depending on your age

Hours
- 17 years old: Monday to Friday, 07:30 to 15:30. 40-hours, inclusive of an hour break each day.
- 18 years old+: Monday to Friday, 07:30 to 17:30. 45-hours, not including up to an hour break each day.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
As an Apprentice Steel Fixer, you will learn to assemble and erect the steel components required to strengthen reinforced concrete structures, such as bridges, culverts, railway stations, power stations, etc.
- Setting out the work area, following engineering plans
- Using hand and power tools to cut and bend bars or mesh
- Tying steel reinforcement bars (rebars) to build cages
Typically, you will work within a larger team on construction projects, and, in the fullness of time, you will be able to interpret contract information, drawings and specifications, in order to assemble and install the components correctly.

What you'll learn
- Comply with health and safety regulations, standards, and guidance.
- Select and use personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Protect others within the working vicinity through the use of barriers, signs, and bar protectors.
- Comply with industry regulations, standards, and guidance.
- Prepare and maintain a safe working area.
- Move, lift and handle materials.
- Work at height and use access and fall protection equipment.
- Interpret information from drawings and specifications.
- Plan order of works and carry out pre-work checks.
- Use and store hand tools and power tools.
- Apply processes and techniques to install a range of in-situ steel reinforcing structures, for example, columns, walls, pile caps and slabs.
- Measure and mark out reinforcing steel.
- Cut and bend reinforcing steel.
- Produce and install supports, for example, L bars, U bars, splay bars and chairs.
- Join and tie reinforcing steel.
- Use temporary construction bars.
- Install bracing within steel reinforcement.
- Communicate verbally with colleagues or customers using industry terminology.
- Complete post build checks.
- Follow equity, diversity and inclusion legislative guidance and principles.
- Apply ethical principles.
- Follow environmental and sustainability regulations, standards, and guidance.
- Segregate resources for reuse, recycling and disposal.
- Use processes and techniques to build reinforcing steel assembly with a: step, penetration or upstand feature.
- Follow work instructions - verbal or written.
- Applies team working principles.
- Follow quality assurance procedures.

Training schedule
Level 2 Steel Fixer Apprenticeship Standard: NVQ Level 2 in Steel Fixing
You will work on one of our 'live' projects and receive training from a recognised provider either one day a week or on a block release.

Essential qualifications
- GCSE in: English (grade 4) Maths (grade 4)
Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience.

Once you have achieved your level 2 qualification you will have the opportunity to progress on to the next level. Ultimately this depends on the individual's work ethic and drive to succeed.
Successful apprentice can progress into supervisory or management role within Kilnbridge.
