Senior Storage Migration Engineer (NetApp ONTAP → Pure Storage FlashBlade NAS Migration)
£800 P/D
6 MONTH CONTRACT
REMOTE UK
We are seeking a highly motivated Storage Migration Engineer with proven experience leading NetApp ONTAP to Pure Storage FlashBlade NAS migrations. This role requires a hands-on engineer who has successfully executed enterprise data migrations and cutovers while working directly with customers in production environments.
The ideal candidate is self-driven, customer-focused, and comfortable owning migration execution from discovery through cutover and post-migration validation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end NAS migration projects from NetApp ONTAP to Pure Storage FlashBlade.
- Perform migration assessments, planning, execution, and production cutovers.
- Configure and provision Pure Storage FlashBlade file services.
- Build, manage, and monitor migration jobs using DobiMigrate.
- Execute incremental synchronizations and final production cutovers.
- Validate data integrity, permissions, and application access after migration.
- Develop and execute migration runbooks including rollback procedures.
- Coordinate with customer infrastructure teams during migration windows.
- Provide proactive customer communication throughout migration activities.
- Troubleshoot migration issues and recommend remediation plans.
Required Technical Skills
NetApp ONTAP (Source Environment)
- Working knowledge of:
- ONTAP NAS administration
- CIFS/SMB shares
- NFS exports
- Export policies
- Quotas
- SnapMirror relationships
- Volume permission styles (NTFS, UNIX, Mixed)
- Understanding of common migration challenges associated with ONTAP environments

Pure Storage FlashBlade (Target Environment)

Experience with:
- FlashBlade file system provisioning
- SMB share creation
- NFS export configuration
- Quota management
- Purity//FB administration
- Pure1 monitoring for capacity and performance validation
- DobiMigrate

Hands-on experience with:
- Discovery and assessment scans
- Migration job creation
- Path mapping
- Performance tuning and throttling
- Incremental synchronization
- Production cutovers
- Validation and reconciliation reporting

Working knowledge of:
- Microsoft Active Directory
- Kerberos authentication
- LDAP identity services
- NFS UID/GID mapping
- SMB permissions
- NTFS ACL validation
- UNIX permissions
- Post-migration permission verification
The engineer is expected to validate identity mappings and permissions but will typically partner with customer teams responsible for AD/LDAP administration.
Networking Knowledge
- General understanding of:
- NAS network connectivity
- DNS resolution
- SMB and NFS networking
- Migration bandwidth validation
- Connectivity verification between NetApp, DobiMigrate, and FlashBlade
- Experience coordinating with customer networking teams is preferred.

Cutover & Migration Execution
- Demonstrated experience executing production cutovers including:
- Pre-migration health checks
- Incremental synchronization
- Write freeze coordination
- Final delta synchronization
- Validation testing
- Production cutover
- Rollback planning
- Post-cutover support
Customer Engagement
The successful candidate will:
- Work directly with enterprise customers.
- Lead migration planning sessions.
- Coordinate migration activities across multiple technical teams.
- Communicate migration status and risks effectively.
- Provide technical leadership during critical maintenance windows.
Preferred Experience
- Multiple successful NetApp ONTAP to Pure Storage FlashBlade migration projects.
- Enterprise NAS migration experience.
- Production storage cutover leadership.
- Customer-facing consulting or professional services experience.
- Experience creating migration runbooks and operational documentation.
What Success Looks Like
This engineer will be the technical lead for FlashBlade provisioning and DobiMigrate execution while partnering closely with customer teams that own the existing NetApp environment, Active Directory/LDAP infrastructure, and network services. They should possess enough expertise across ONTAP, identity services, and networking to validate configurations, ask the right technical questions, and ensure a successful migration—even when those components are managed by the customer.
