🚀 Storage Engineer | Python / Perl Development Background

📍 Glasgow, Scotland, UK | Hybrid
💷 £543 per day including holiday pay on PAYE
📅 12-month contract

We’re currently recruiting for an experienced Storage Engineer with a strong software development background to join our client’s technology team in Glasgow. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who combines advanced programming skills with solid storage and Linux expertise, working on highly available, scalable infrastructure solutions within a global enterprise environment.

🔧 The Role

You’ll play a key role in designing, developing and integrating solutions across the firm-wide storage platform, covering areas such as:

  • Storage provisioning, monitoring, alerting, auditing and inventory management
  • Development of in-house applications and automation tools
  • Problem management, preventive maintenance and capacity management
  • Storage virtualisation, automation and software-defined storage
  • Distributed and scale-out file systems
  • Infrastructure automation and observability
  • Integration with third-party storage technologies and vendors
  • Working closely with customers to understand requirements and communicate technical solutions
  • Collaborating as part of a global technology team

💻 What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Strong software development experience, ideally with Python and/or Perl
  • Experience working across the full Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)
  • Strong Computer Science fundamentals
  • Intermediate-to-advanced experience administering Linux/RHEL in an enterprise environment
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across operating systems, networks and storage
  • Excellent communication, organisation and prioritisation skills

⭐ Desirable Storage & Technology Experience

Experience with some of the following would be highly beneficial:

  • IBM GPFS / Storage Scale
  • Fibre Channel, iSCSI, SCSI, NFS, CIFS and POSIX
  • Object storage, SAS, SATA, NVMe/SSD
  • RAID and erasure coding
  • Distributed and scale-out storage
  • High-availability architectures
  • Storage databases and SQL
  • Networking protocols and connectivity
  • Enterprise UNIX/RHEL and Windows Server environments
  • OpenShift, Kubernetes and Docker
  • Cloud platforms including Azure, AWS or Google Cloud
  • Storage virtualisation, performance and capacity management
  • NetApp, HDS, EMC, Brocade, Veritas, Sybase and/or DB2 technologies
