Job Description
About the Role
NBCUniversal has an exciting opportunity for a talented individual to join the Enterprise Technology and Infrastructure Storage team as a Storage Engineer. The team supports Enterprise Technology, Broadcast, Production, and Media Operations systems across NBCUniversal’s global portfolio.
The Storage Engineer will be responsible for maintaining and supporting highly available storage and data-protection environments operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. This role will execute and support operational changes across supported platforms and their dependent applications. The engineer will also serve as an escalation point for major incidents requiring storage expertise and will help manage those incidents through resolution.
Essential Functions
- Support the complete lifecycle of NBCUniversal’s enterprise storage technologies, including file, block, object, cloud, and tape storage platforms, both on-premises and in the cloud.
- Provide Level 2 escalation support to Managed Service Provider teams responsible for maintaining designated storage systems, including participation in a 24x7 on-call support rotation.
- Investigate application and infrastructure performance issues affecting Media Operations and Enterprise Systems, including their integration points, to identify systemic issues and determine root cause.
- Troubleshoot complex storage, data-protection, performance, availability, and connectivity issues and coordinate their resolution across internal teams.
- Work directly with storage vendors to resolve technical issues, manage escalations, and help drive future product improvements and development.
- Upgrade, patch, and maintain storage systems to improve functionality, stability, performance, and security.
- Develop and maintain scripts and automation for routine operational, administrative, monitoring, reporting, and provisioning tasks.
- Partner with engineering teams across compute, networking, database, automation, cybersecurity, cloud, and application support to deliver cross-platform and cross-facility solutions.
- Support storage-related projects, including system implementations, migrations, technology refreshes, capacity expansions, and decommissioning activities.
- Follow established incident, problem, change, and configuration-management processes.
- Provide timely and clearly communicated updates to management, business stakeholders, and technical teams regarding incidents, operational activities, risks, and project deliverables.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, system diagrams, support runbooks, and knowledge-base articles.
- Provide system and support-process training to members of the broader engineering, operations, and Managed Service Provider teams.

Qualifications
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Minimum of four years of experience supporting and troubleshooting medium-to-large, highly available storage and data-protection environments.
- Hands-on experience with at least two of the following storage technologies or platforms:
- NetApp storage systems
- Dell EMC storage systems, including PowerScale/Isilon
- Cloudian or other S3-compatible object-storage platforms
- Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services cloud storage technologies
- Enterprise LTO tape libraries and archive systems
- Rubrik backup and data-protection platforms, including Rubrik software and appliances
- Minimum of four years of experience planning, documenting, validating, implementing, and testing technical solutions within a global enterprise environment.
- Experience with storage performance analysis, capacity management, data replication, SAN-based backup, load balancing, storage virtualization, and SAN zoning and provisioning.
- Working knowledge of storage protocols and technologies, including Fibre Channel, iSCSI, SMB/CIFS, NFS, S3, flash storage, RAID, and LTO tape.
- Experience building, configuring, administering, patching, and troubleshooting Windows and Linux servers.
- Working knowledge of network infrastructure, protocols, services, and diagnostic toolsets.
- Experience troubleshooting complex issues across storage, operating system, network, and application layers.
- Ability to create and maintain accurate technical documentation, operational procedures, and support runbooks.
Eligibility Requirements
- Willingness to travel and work overtime, evenings, or weekends with short notice when operationally required.
- Ability and willingness to participate in a 24x7x365 on-call support rotation.
- Ability to support and manage technology environments across multiple locations in the United States and internationally.

- Familiarity with DevOps and infrastructure-automation tools and languages, including Bash, Python, PowerShell, Ansible, Terraform, and Git.
- Familiarity with enterprise monitoring, observability, and logging technologies, including Nagios/OP5, Datadog, and comparable platforms.
- Experience with Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services cloud storage technologies, including object, file, block, and archive storage, as well as data migration, replication, lifecycle management, security, monitoring, performance optimization, and cost management.
- Experience supporting hybrid-cloud storage, cloud data migration, object lifecycle management, and cloud-based data-protection solutions.
- Experience supporting storage platforms for artificial intelligence and machine-learning workloads, including the use of AI-enabled storage and AIOps capabilities for performance optimization, anomaly detection, predictive capacity planning, incident analysis, and operational automation.
- Familiarity with data-protection, cyber-resilience, recovery testing, and storage-security best practices.
- Relevant storage, cloud, operating system, networking, or automation certifications are desirable.
- Previous experience in the media, entertainment, broadcast, or production industry is preferred.
- Experience administering and supporting Rubrik backup software and appliances, including backup policy configuration, data protection, recovery, replication, archival, monitoring, upgrades, troubleshooting, and vendor support escalation.
