Storage Python Engineer

Location: Glasgow

Role Type: Contract - 12 months

Work Setup: Hybrid - 3 days in the office

The Role

Our client is a large multinational firm that provides a range of financial services, including advisory, investment, and asset management solutions. It serves a diverse set of clients worldwide, focusing on strategic planning, market operations, and long-term financial growth.

What you'll do

  • Design and develop scalable solutions for enterprise storage provisioning, monitoring, alerting, auditing and inventory management.
  • Build and integrate storage solutions, working with third-party vendors and internal technology teams.
  • Develop in-house applications and automation tools using Python and/or Perl.
  • Support problem management and preventive maintenance, including alerting and capacity management.
  • Work with storage virtualisation, distributed and scale-out file systems, software-defined storage and infrastructure automation.
  • Troubleshoot issues across operating systems, networks and storage environments, while working with global teams and technical stakeholders.

What you bring

  • Strong commercial software development experience using Python and/or Perl, with a solid understanding of SDLC, object-oriented programming and SQL.
  • Intermediate to advanced experience supporting and administering Linux/RHEL in an enterprise environment, with knowledge of Windows Server also beneficial.
  • Good understanding of enterprise storage technologies, including NFS, CIFS, Fibre Channel, iSCSI, RAID, SSD/NVMe, object storage and distributed/scale-out storage.
  • Experience with storage architecture, virtualisation, performance and capacity management, alongside an understanding of networking and connectivity.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure automation, containers and cloud platforms, such as Kubernetes, Docker, OpenShift, AWS, Azure or Google Cloud.
  • Strong troubleshooting, communication and organisational skills, with the ability to manage priorities, understand customer requirements and clearly communicate technical solutions; experience with NetApp, IBM Spectrum Scale/GPFS, Brocade, HDS, EMC or Veritas would be advantageous.
