Job Purpose

To contribute towards the smooth and effective running of an internal stores function. Undertaking day to day activities commensurate with a stores operation to ensure the efficient provision of products including items of personal protective equipment, plant, tools and other equipment required in the delivery of a day-to-day construction service.

To achieve high levels of efficiency and customer service prioritising health, safety and wellbeing of colleagues within the stores and the wider LBS depot.

Responsibilities

• Provide an internal stores service to LBS through effectively staffing a counter service where products are issued to colleagues.
• Ensure the effective and efficient supply of personal protective equipment, uniform clothing and footwear to colleagues through an over-the-counter service.
• Manually stock / move products and materials within the store's environment using ladders, wheeled devices or class 1 forklift as required.
• Safely operate a class 1 forklift.
• Ensure that the stores environment inclusive of the yard remains clean, tidy and conforms to Health and Safety requirements and Legislation.
• Work in line with the internal risk assessments produced for the tasks that are being undertaken.
• Provision and inventory management of plant and tools to operatives as required. Including the safe storage, completion of visual safety checks and ensuring all equipment issued has been PAT tested where appropriate.
• Undertake PAT testing where appropriate.
• Facilitate LBS and any other depot / yard that comes under the management of LBS to remain clean, clear, and tidy and to action winterisation activities across sites to ensure that they remain safe, open and available for use year-round. Including supporting fleet and transporting vehicles.
• Facilitate waste management with a promotion and ethos of recycling at the Seacroft and Westland Road depots through LCC bulk waste contractors by assisting with the placing, sorting and removal of waste.
• Flexible and adaptable to change to assist other services as required commensurate to grade.
• Participate in appraisal, training and development activities as necessary to ensure up to date knowledge and skills.
• Improve own practice through observation, evaluation, discussion with colleagues and development programmes.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues, knowing when to seek help and advice.
• Contribute to the overall ethos, work, and aims of the service by attending relevant meetings, training days/events as requested.
• Be aware of and comply with Leeds City Council policies and procedures e.g. child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.

Qualifications

• Class 1 Forklift license (desirable)
• Full driving license

• Able to work safely using manual handling techniques.
• Able to work at height.
• Good communication skills.
• The ability to read and write English to a good standard.
• Basic Numeracy skills.
• Able to operate computerised systems including but not limited to Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Able to work flexibly across different work locations and areas as appropriate.
• Basic Knowledge of a Stores Environment.
• An understanding of the health and safety policies relevant to the role and work environment.

Desirable Requirements

It is desirable that the Candidate should be able to demonstrate the following criteria for the post. Candidates are not required to meet all the desirable requirements however these may be used to distinguish between acceptable candidates.

• Ability to operate a class 1 Forklift.
• Has completed Manual Handling and Working at Height courses.
• Has completed Health and Safety responsibilities and legislation training.
• An understanding of a working stores environment including stock rotation principles.
• PAT Testing qualification
• Experience of working within a stores / warehouse environment.
• Experience of working within a customer facing role.
