KeolisAmey Docklands (KAD) operates and maintains the Docklands Light Railway (DLR), one of London's most innovative and successful transport networks. We are looking for two Stores Assistants to join our Engineering team and support the efficient operation of our stores function at Beckton Depot. This role plays a vital part in ensuring the correct control, storage and issuing of materials required to maintain the DLR network safely and effectively.
The Role
As a Stores Assistant, you will support the day-to-day running of the stores operation, ensuring materials and components are accurately received, stored, recorded and issued to support maintenance activities across the DLR network. You will work closely with the Stores Supervisor to maintain stock accuracy, support inventory control processes and contribute to a strong safety culture within a safety-critical railway environment.
This is a hands-on role requiring excellent attention to detail, good organisational skills and a commitment to maintaining high standards of safety, service and operational performance.
What You'll Do
- Receive, store, control and issue materials in accordance with company procedures and policies.
- Accurately record stock transactions and allocations using the Maximo system.
- Support inventory control processes to maintain stock accuracy and availability.
- Ensure items requiring repair are returned to suppliers promptly with the correct documentation.
- Assist in monitoring and controlling stores resources to meet operational requirements safely and effectively.
- Support the Stores Supervisor in the day-to-day operation of Beckton Stores.
- Help ensure the provision of suitable components and materials for the maintenance of DLR assets.
- Follow and promote safe working practices within the stores environment.
- Implement good COSHH practices and comply with safety procedures and company standards.
- Liaise with suppliers to resolve delivery discrepancies and material issues.
- Prepare accurate reports and maintain relevant records and documentation.
- Contribute to a positive safety culture and support continuous improvement activities.

About You
Essential
- Experience in material storage, warehousing or inventory control.
- Experience using IT systems to record stock movements and maintain accurate records.
- Ability to use stores equipment such as forklifts, cranes or similar material handling equipment.
- Understanding of technical materials and components used within an engineering or maintenance environment.
- Ability to produce accurate reports and documentation.
- Good communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to work safely and follow company procedures in a safety-critical environment.
- A commitment to delivering high standards of customer service and teamwork.
Desirable
- Experience using Maximo or a similar inventory/asset management system.
- Previous experience within a rail, engineering, maintenance or manufacturing environment.
- Forklift licence or certification.
- Knowledge of COSHH requirements and safe storage practices.
- Experience working within a safety-critical environment.
