Strategic BDM / Key Account Manager

Scotland

£80,000 – £100,000 + Bonus + Benefits

The Role

We are recruiting a Strategic BDM / Key Account Manager for a fast-growing MGU business, taking responsibility for a small number of broker relationships that are genuinely material to the performance of the organisation.

This is a strategic distribution role rather than a conventional business development position — the majority of the business's revenue is concentrated through a small number of top broking partners, and this hire will be accountable for the performance of that concentration.

The role has two distinct dimensions. Regionally, you will own the performance of the top broker relationships within Scotland — understanding where the business is winning, losing or underpenetrated with each partner, and driving incremental revenue from those accounts.

Nationally, you will also take ownership of one major broker relationship on behalf of the wider business, acting as the single point of contact across that organisation's regions and offices, identifying problems and opportunities, and improving the overall strategic relationship at group level.

This requires someone comfortable operating at multiple levels within a broking organisation — credible in front of senior regional and national leadership, while still understanding what is actually happening at branch and trading level.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

It is a relationship management and strategic account role, not a transactional new business role, and requires the judgement to know when to escalate, when to intervene, and when to let the relationship run.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Owning the performance of the top broker relationships across Scotland, with accountability for revenue growth and account penetration
  • Taking national ownership of one major broker relationship, acting as the central point of contact across that group's regional structure
  • Identifying gaps in performance or penetration within key accounts and developing plans to address them
  • Building and maintaining relationships at multiple levels within broking organisations, from senior leadership to branch and trading teams
  • Working closely with regional underwriting teams to align account strategy with underwriting appetite and capacity
  • Representing the business at a senior level in strategic broker discussions, regionally and nationally

What We're Looking For

  • A strong track record in key account management, strategic BDM, or senior broker relationship roles within commercial P&C or MGA/MGU distribution
  • Genuine, established connectivity across the Scottish broking market — this is not a role for someone simply willing to travel into the territory
  • Credibility and gravitas to engage senior broker leadership, combined with a working understanding of branch-level trading dynamics
  • Commercial judgement and the ability to identify and act on revenue opportunities within existing accounts
  • Strong relationship management and influencing skills, with experience operating across multiple stakeholders and locations
  • Comfortable holding responsibility for relationships with material revenue impact on the business

  • Comprehensive benefits package
  • A strategic, senior-level role with genuine influence over key account performance
  • The opportunity to combine regional depth with a national account remit, working closely with underwriting and regional leadership teams
