The Opportunity

Our client is an established and highly recognised consumer-facing organisation and are looking to appoint an experienced Strategic Buyer – Indirects to join their procurement division.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded procurement professional who enjoys working with data, developing sourcing strategies and delivering measurable value across indirect spend categories.

The successful candidate will take ownership of a portfolio of indirect categories, working closely with internal stakeholders and suppliers to identify opportunities, improve commercial performance and build effective long-term sourcing strategies.

The Role

You will be responsible for developing and implementing sourcing strategies across selected indirect categories, using market intelligence, spend analysis and commercial insight to support business decisions.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and implementing category and sourcing strategies across a range of indirect spend areas.
  • Analysing complex spend, supplier and market data to identify commercial opportunities.
  • Conducting benchmarking, opportunity assessments, cost modelling and root-cause analysis.
  • Researching supplier markets, industry developments, competitor activity and wider market dynamics.
  • Identifying opportunities to reduce cost, improve value, mitigate risk and enhance supplier performance.
  • Leading sourcing projects from initial analysis through to supplier selection, negotiation and contract implementation.
  • Managing commercial negotiations with existing and prospective suppliers.
  • Supporting contract development, negotiation and ongoing contract management.
  • Developing and maintaining effective supplier relationships and performance management processes.
  • Establishing supplier KPIs, scorecards and other analytical tools to monitor performance.
  • Working collaboratively with stakeholders across the wider business to understand requirements and deliver commercially effective solutions.
  • Managing multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Providing procurement insight and recommendations to senior stakeholders.
  • Supporting and sharing knowledge with colleagues across the wider procurement function.

About You

We are looking for a strong procurement professional with a proven background in indirect purchasing / strategic sourcing.

You will ideally bring:

  • Proven experience within strategic procurement, indirect purchasing or strategic sourcing.
  • Strong commercial awareness and an understanding of supplier markets and market dynamics.
  • Experience developing and executing category or sourcing strategies.
  • Strong negotiation skills and confidence managing supplier relationships.
  • Experience using spend analysis, benchmarking and cost modelling to support procurement decisions.
  • Strong analytical capability, with the ability to interpret complex data and turn it into clear commercial recommendations.
  • Experience with contract management and supplier performance management.
  • An understanding of procurement processes, commercial contracting and business ethics.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • The ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively across a wider procurement team.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, commercially driven organisation.

Experience within retail, hospitality, consumer, leisure or another high-volume, customer-focused environment would be particularly advantageous, although relevant experience from other sectors will also be considered.
