Strategic Buyer - International Purchasing
Location: Poole
Salary: £50k
A leading engineering and manufacturing business is seeking a Buyer who brings a strategic approach to support new product introduction and drive effective sourcing strategies from concept through to production. This role sits at the intersection of engineering, procurement, and operations, ensuring cost-effective and reliable supply solutions.
About the Role as Strategic Buyer
This role involves leading procurement activities across NPI and industrialisation projects.
Responsibilities as Strategic Buyer
- Lead procurement activities across NPI and industrialisation projects
- Integrate sourcing strategies with engineering and production requirements
- Manage RFQs, supplier selection, and commercial negotiations
- Ensure availability of materials and components to meet project timelines
- Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and Operations on DFM/DFA and technical alignment
- Support supplier audits, qualification, and performance reviews
- Drive cost reduction and value engineering initiatives
- Maintain procurement data, contracts, and project documentation
- Manage supplier relationships to ensure quality, delivery, and cost targets are met
- Support smooth transition from project phase into serial production

Qualifications and Experience as Strategic Buyer
- Strong commercial acumen and negotiation skills
- Experience in a strategic or project-based buying role within engineering/manufacturing
- Good understanding of manufacturing processes and supply chains
- Experience with ERP systems and data analysis
- Effective stakeholder and supplier management skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
- Professional qualification (e.g. CIPS) desirable
- Exposure to NPI or industrialisation processes beneficial
- Knowledge of lean or continuous improvement methods advantageous
- Willingness to travel to suppliers as required
