Strategic Communications Manager
Location: Home based with some travel
Working Pattern: 37.5 hours per week Monday-Friday with occasional flexibility required
The Strategic Communications Manager will support Biffa’s strategic communications planning across the Group, ensuring activity is aligned with business strategy, commercial priorities and reputation objectives. The role will report directly into the Head of Strategic Communications.
Working across Corporate Affairs, Divisional Marketing, Internal Communications, and subject matter experts, the role will translate business priorities into integrated communications plans, campaigns, and content that deliver measurable impact.
The role will support the annual communications planning process, editorial and story pipeline, campaign frameworks, audience and messaging strategy, and coordinate activity across PR, social media, thought leadership, and community engagement. It will ensure a consistent corporate narrative while supporting divisional and local priorities.
Using data, insight, and performance measurement, the Strategic Communications Manager will continually improve effectiveness and focus resources on activity that delivers value across reputation, growth, policy influence, and community impact.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own the annual strategic communications planning process and calendar, ensuring communications activity is aligned with business strategy, commercial objectives, and corporate priorities.
- Act as the strategic communications business partner for Corporate Affairs, Divisional Marketing teams, and Internal Communications Business Partners.
- Working with the strat comms team, develop communication campaigns including audience segmentation, messaging frameworks, channel strategies, campaign objectives, and measurement approaches.
- Coordinate communications activity across earned media, thought leadership, organic social media, executive profiling, stakeholder engagement, and community activity to maximize impact and consistency.
- Establish and manage the strategic communications editorial pipeline, from ideation through to execution on a monthly/weekly basis; coordinating activities across the Press & Media Officer, Social Exec, and Community Exec, in partnership with the Digital and Content Marketing teams across Divisions; ensuring a structured program of stories, campaigns, and content opportunities aligned to key business priorities.
- Ensure consistency of messaging, positioning, and storytelling across all communications activities while maintaining flexibility for divisional and regional requirements.

Essential Criteria for the Role:
- Degree-level education or equivalent professional experience in communications, marketing, public affairs, journalism, or a related discipline.
- Significant experience in strategic communications, corporate affairs, communications planning, or integrated marketing communications.
- Proven experience developing and delivering integrated strategic communications plans and campaigns.
- Experience operating within a complex matrix organization with multiple stakeholders.
- Experience working across earned, owned, and social media channels.
- Experience collaborating with senior leaders, subject matter experts, and cross-functional teams.
- Understanding of SEO, digital marketing, and content optimization principles.
- Use of PowerPoint design, Excel, and comfortable with planning tools such as Click Up.
