Description

Are you an experienced communications professional looking for a dynamic role that will shape how an organisation communicates with its people and closest stakeholders?

Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) Children’s Charity is looking for a Strategic Communications Manager to support our internal and external stakeholder communications.

This is a 12-month fixed-term contract position which will see you lead the day-to-day running of our new Strategic Communications team, engaging our stakeholders with compelling, clear, cohesive, and engaging storytelling that supports our strategy narrative.

Reporting to our Senior Strategic Comms Manager and line-managing a Strategic Comms Officer, you’ll play a vital role in coordinating teams from across the Charity to ensure the smooth planning and delivery of high-quality communications outputs.

This is a varied, high-impact role that will shape the way we engage with our community - from major moments to everyday interactions.

Salary

The salary for this position is £48,496 per annum and we operate a hybrid working policy of a minimum of 2 days per week in the London office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver corporate and internal communications plans, ensuring they are clear, consistent, timely, and aligned to our strategic objectives.
  • Manage the end-to-end delivery of key outputs such as our Annual Report, Staff Conference, and Senior Leadership Team communications.
  • Ensure all our communications address the needs of our key stakeholders, from Charity staff to our Trustees, volunteers, hospital colleagues, and high-value donors.
  • Draw on industry best-practice and data insights to drive continuous improvement across our channels, messages, and processes.
  • Support the development and delivery of messages in response to sensitive or complex issues, ensuring consistency, timeliness, and adherence to governance requirements.
  • Line manage and develop our Strategic Communications Officer, supporting their growth and performance.
  • Contribute to team planning, prioritisation and workload management with other Communications managers.

Skills, Knowledge And Expertise

  • Understanding of strategic communications, including messaging and narrative development, risk and reputation issues, content creation, and channels management.
  • Experience leading or managing complex communications projects to ensure outputs are delivered within deadlines and to exacting standards.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, including the ability to translate complex information into clear, engaging content that aligns to audience needs and communications channels.
  • Stakeholder management and relationship-building skills; acting as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, project teams, and other stakeholders.
  • A proactive, creative approach to prioritising and problem-solving within a fast-paced environment.

DBS - note that a Basic DBS check is required for this role.
