Strategic Finance Team Overview
Core Purpose
The Strategic Finance team’s core purpose is to help the business make better decisions. Our vision is to:

Team Focus
The team is focused on project activity, detailed work, and modelling to support the following pillars:
Data and Insight
- Understanding our history from FY21 onwards with deeper focus on FY23+
- Influence current performance and plans
- Data-based decisions
- Lead project to move Customer data to the Data Lake
Model Development
- Understand drivers and predict performance
- Predictions based on data and trends
- Sell side model & Revenue model – to support transactions
- Shape models – to set targets for 5-year plan
- Cost model
Investor Relations
- Support development of messaging and MI
- Finance point of contact with investors
- M&A – activity to support transactions
- Partnering to strategy Director
- Partnering with HPS
Purpose of the Role
Help to ensure the team is recognised for strong insight, compelling storytelling, and driving the business to make better decisions. The team proposes and prioritises activity, typically project work from short to longer term. The strategic finance consultant will propose activity to add to the backlog and help prioritise activity.
Working independently and with teams as necessary for delivery. Often collaborating with colleagues inside and outside Finance to deliver results together. With Strategic Finance known for ensuring clarity of requirements and for injecting pace to delivery. The team has completed a 6-month project to organise historic data and is now translating this data into insight for planning and performance and to help tell the story of the Group. The senior consultant will take a lead in delivering value from this project.
The role will require design and build of models and analysis of actuals and plans to help management optimise performance and plans. The role has a significant ad-hoc nature to respond to queries from investors, CFO, and key stakeholders, and the consultant will assist in the response to these requirements.
The team is sponsor to a project to move Commercial Data and Operational into the data lake. This offers the opportunity to transform Finance data and insight, creating new capabilities. Consider all opportunities to drive value from data. Lead and support work to improve performance, particularly using the operational data to drive insight and improve driver-based planning.

Key Responsibilities
- Drive value and insight from data collected
- Assist and manage collation and preparation of internal data for business use in formats which can also be used for due diligence M&A activity
- Enhance Finance challenge and review of Business plans. Taking ownership for review and challenge of sections of the plan
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure clarity around performance metrics and investor reporting
- Contribute to the establishment of a new strategic finance team structure
- Design and build models and analysis of actuals and plans to help management optimise performance and plans. Bringing insight to help the business make better decisions
- Lead and assist on ad-hoc queries from investors, CFO, and Head of Strategic Finance
- Curious mindset, ability to spot opportunities to enhance performance and plans. With the ability to turn the ideas into action
- Ability to manage backlog and ad-hoc queries and ensure the team and individual is delivering at pace, with strong feedback on effectiveness
Candidate Profile
- Qualified accountant with experience of managing teams and projects in Commercial Finance, Partnering, FP&A, and financial control ideally within financial services
- Strong analytical ability and a methodical approach to data reconciliation, reporting, and investigation
- Comfortable working with large, complex datasets in Excel (other data tools experience beneficial but not essential)
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and communicate financial and business insights clearly to senior stakeholders
- Experience of partnering stakeholders, collaborating to drive value and insight
- Adaptable, hands-on, and able to operate effectively in a fast-paced, changeable environment, independently and with team
- Collaborative, with an interest in helping to shape new processes and reporting structures
- Transaction and diligence experience. Leading and reviewing models, data interpretation, and making clear recommendations at pace
