About The Role
As a Strategic Interface Lead, you will support the management of Strategic Technical Interfaces across the Strategic Infrastructure Portfolio. Working closely with Strategic Technical Interface Managers, Project Teams, and external stakeholders, you will help ensure that interface requirements, risks, actions, and dependencies are effectively identified, managed, and communicated.
We are recruiting multiple Strategic Interface Leads to support projects across our East of England and North regions. You'll be assigned to a project within your region and will travel to the relevant project office on a weekly basis.
The role provides an excellent opportunity for individuals with a project management, engineering, or infrastructure background to develop portfolio-level experience and build expertise in stakeholder management, interface management, risk management, and governance. You will contribute to the management of strategic relationships that impact multiple projects while supporting the delivery of National Grid's largest-ever capital programme.
The Interface Lead will act as an important link between project teams, portfolio teams, and external stakeholders, helping to ensure consistent implementation of interface management processes and standards across the portfolio.
This role is Variable Based. You will be expected to travel to project locations throughout your working week based on project demands. Operational or delivery roles requiring attendance at multiple sites within a region.
About You
- Degree level education in relevant discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Experience of working on infrastructure, engineering, utility, or construction projects.
- Understanding of project management principles, including planning, risk management, governance, and stakeholder management.
- Experience working with multiple stakeholders and building effective working relationships across teams and organizations.
- Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage effectively with technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience coordinating activities, actions, risks, or dependencies across multiple workstreams or teams.
- Ability to analyze information, identify trends, and support effective decision-making.
- Experience preparing reports, presentations, or management information to support governance and performance reviews.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to identify opportunities for improvement and contribute to the development of processes, standards, and ways of working.
- Experience using project controls, reporting, or data management tools would be advantageous.
- Knowledge of the utilities, infrastructure, or regulated environment would be beneficial but is not essential.
What You'll Do
Strategic Interface Management
- Lead the management of assigned Strategic Technical Interfaces, ensuring a consistent approach across all impacted projects.
- Act as the primary day-to-day contact for assigned technical stakeholders, developing effective working relationships and facilitating the resolution of interface issues.
- Develop and maintain detailed knowledge of stakeholder requirements, constraints, programmes, and priorities.
- Develop and maintain Strategic Technical Interface Management Plans for assigned interfaces.
- Coordinate engagement activities between project teams and strategic stakeholders to achieve aligned outcomes across the portfolio.

Portfolio Interface Coordination
- Maintain visibility of interface activities, requirements, dependencies, and constraints across multiple projects for assigned Strategic Technical Interfaces.
- Identify opportunities for standardization, efficiency, and consistency across projects.
- Ensure project teams have timely visibility of interface requirements, commitments, and emerging risks.
- Lead cross-project coordination activities where multiple projects are impacted by the same interfacing organization.
- Facilitate portfolio-wide knowledge sharing and lessons learned relating to assigned interfaces.
Governance, Reporting, and Insight
- Own interface registers, action trackers, and data associated with assigned Strategic Technical Interfaces.
- Lead governance meetings, working groups, and stakeholder forums, ensuring actions and commitments are progressed and closed out.
- Produce portfolio-level reporting, dashboards, and management information for assigned interfaces.
- Analyze interface performance and identify trends, risks, and opportunities requiring management action.
- Prepare briefings, papers, and presentations for senior management and stakeholder engagement activities.
Risk Management and Escalation
- Lead identification and management of interface risks, issues, and opportunities across assigned interfaces.
- Develop and implement mitigation actions to address emerging interface risks.
- Escalate systemic issues that may impact multiple projects, stakeholder relationships, or portfolio outcomes.
- Work with project teams to ensure interface-related risks and dependencies are appropriately managed and communicated.
Stakeholder and Agreement Management
- Lead the implementation of standardized interface management processes, technical requirements, and agreements for assigned stakeholders.
- Coordinate stakeholder commitments and ensure agreed actions are delivered.
- Support negotiations with interfacing organizations and contribute to achieving optimal portfolio outcomes.
- Maintain accurate records of decisions, agreements, and stakeholder commitments.
Continuous Improvement and Capability Development
- Drive continuous improvement in interface management processes, reporting, governance, and data quality.
- Champion implementation of Interface Management Guidance and portfolio standards.
- Coach and share best practice with project teams to improve interface management capability across the portfolio.
- Identify opportunities to enhance efficiency, consistency, and stakeholder experience.
Safety Leadership
- Promote and demonstrate a positive safety culture in all interface management activities.
- Champion National Grid values and ensure safe behaviors are embedded within stakeholder engagement and decision-making.
