Job Description: Strategic Planner

We’re looking for an experienced Strategic Planner to provide specialist expertise across maintenance planning, forecasting, modelling and data governance.

This is a key role supporting the development and continuous improvement of our maintenance planning frameworks, ensuring plans are strategically aligned, operationally achievable and commercially robust.

Working across Operations, Projects, Procurement and Data & Systems teams, you’ll use your engineering knowledge and analytical expertise to develop long-term maintenance strategies, optimise resources and capacity, and provide the modelling and insight needed to support operational delivery and competitive bid submissions.

As a subject matter expert, you’ll also play an important role in influencing cross-functional decisions and ensuring planning data and maintenance strategies are accurate, controlled and fit for purpose.

This role can be based from any of our UK locations.

What You’ll Be Doing

Planning & Forecasting

You’ll lead the development and maintenance of key planning tools, including:

  • Integrated Heavy Maintenance Plans
  • Integrated Light Maintenance Plans
  • Generator Unit Forecasts
  • Pantograph Forecasts
  • Long-term maintenance strategies
  • Depot capacity plans

You’ll validate heavy maintenance schedules against technical and contractual requirements and ensure planning outputs support both current operations and future opportunities.

Strategic Planning & Optimisation

Working closely with Operations Delivery and other key teams, you’ll:

  • Develop and implement heavy maintenance strategies across current and future fleets.
  • Identify opportunities to optimise labour, materials, maintenance intervals and locations.
  • Develop scenario-based planning models to support competitive and deliverable bid submissions.
  • Identify and quantify risks relating to areas such as material availability, resource constraints and depot capacity.
  • Support maintenance optimisation through scope alignment, interval extension and network/location efficiencies.
  • Work collaboratively across Projects, Operations and Procurement to ensure plans are robust, aligned and deliverable.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
