๐ข Strategic Services Lead (Commercial Data Scientist/Analytics Lead) - Maritime Analytics & AI
Maritime Industry domain experience needed
Location: UK, Norway preferred but can be flexible on other European locations
Base: up to ยฃ100k + Bonus + Benefits
This is one of the most interesting roles in maritime technology right now. Not because of the title. Because of what it actually is.
We are a leading maritime ERP and fleet management software company โ and we are building something new. A High Value Services capability that uses data, AI and strategic engagement to make our customers' businesses genuinely stronger. The goal is to move from selling maritime software functionality to selling measurable business outcomes.
This role will build that capability from the ground up.
Why this role is different
Most analytics or insight roles in maritime sit inside a product or data team, removed from customers. This one doesn't. You will be in the room with ship managers, technical directors and C-suite executives, leading conversations that turn messy operational data into commercially relevant insight โ and doing it in a way that creates repeatable, scalable service patterns, not one-off bespoke work.
You will need to know when to say yes โ and when to say no. That judgement is at the heart of the role.
What you will be building and leading:
- A clear High Value Services portfolio grounded in real maritime customer pain points โ maintenance optimisation, voyage performance, fleet benchmarking, AI-enabled innovation
- Discovery conversations, value hypothesis sessions and executive-level insight playbacks with ship management and shipping company stakeholders
- Analytical engagements that turn imperfect, real-world operational data into commercially useful outputs โ not impressive slides, but genuine business outcomes
- Reusable methods, tools and service patterns โ systematically converting customer-specific work into scalable offerings that feed back into product and R&D
- A small, focused multidisciplinary team โ initially one developer alongside you, with capacity to grow as the function proves out

Iโm in my final year doing Economics and I donโt know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer โ it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) donโt need a masters. Letโs look at the ones youโd be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet โ that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right โ and where to focus when applying.
What we are looking for:
- Deep maritime domain knowledge โ technical management, voyage operations, planned maintenance, commercial performance or fleet operations. You can engage credibly with ship managers without needing to have sailed
- Proven analytics or insight leadership โ you have structured operational problems analytically, worked with imperfect real-world datasets and guided technical teams toward commercially useful output
- Commercial judgement โ you understand the difference between a strategic-transformation engagement and a custom-dev backstop request. You know what to charge for and what to redirect
- Customer-facing confidence โ comfortable operating at director and C-level, simplifying complex ideas without dumbing them down, and shaping commercial follow-on through insight rather than sales pressure
- Builder mentality โ you have created structure from ambiguity before. Built a team, a function, a capability or an offering where the path was not predefined
- Technical credibility โ fluent enough in data warehousing, analytics delivery, statistical reasoning and practical AI to direct technical teams, review quality and make feasibility trade-offs

The kind of person who will thrive here:
- You are credible โ people trust you in ambiguous situations because you carry substance, not just confidence.
- You are pragmatic โ you focus effort where it matters and distinguish signal from noise.
- You are honest โ comfortable saying "the data does not support that claim" or "this should be a product capability, not a services engagement."
- Commercially tough-minded โ you do not confuse activity with value.
What is on offer:
- A genuinely defining role โ you will shape what this capability becomes and leave your mark on how a leading maritime software company delivers value
- Full remote working from anywhere in the UK
- Significant internal visibility โ regular reporting to senior leadership on portfolio, commercial performance and strategic positioning
- The chance to work at the intersection of maritime operations, data science, AI and commercial strategy
