Job Purpose / Overview
The purpose of the role is for the Strategic Sourcing Manager to implement category management approaches across Sizewell C (SZC) Site Delivery and the wider project. The role will be responsible for coordinating and developing category strategies as well as the appropriate framework management to deliver the required supply base innovation and productivity performance.
The Strategic Sourcing Manager will collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, e.g., Project Managers, Finance, and Project Controls, to procure the requirements in accordance with Sizewell C’s Acquire Goods and Services (AGS) processes and procedures. Procurement values will range up to and above £100m, therefore it is essential the Strategic Sourcing Manager is commercially astute and able to engage closely with all stakeholders to ensure the best value solution for the project.
Contextual Information
SZC is the first nuclear power station in the UK to be funded under the Regulated Asset Base funding model (RAB). Our largest shareholder is the UK Government, alongside equity partners La Caisse, Centrica, EDF, and Amber Infrastructure.
SZC’s business is to design, finance, construct, commission, operate, maintain, and eventually decommission the nuclear power plant and related infrastructure (including activities relating to hydrogen, direct air capture, and/or desalination) at Sizewell C in Suffolk. The principal objectives of the current development phase of the SZC project are to agree and implement the Capital Raise Plan, including completing an equity and debt raise, agree the core supply chain contracts, and obtain the regulatory permits and licenses required for the construction phase of the Project (including the core environmental permits and nuclear site license).
Prior to the government investment decision SZC operated as part of EDF in the Nuclear Development business unit and was staffed by EDF colleagues and independent contractors who are now in the process of transferring to the direct employment of SZC. It is setting itself up as an organization capable of delivering a new nuclear power plant, from investment case and funding, to construction, commissioning, operations, maintenance, and decommissioning.
The SZC construction programme has a technical and commercial business case predicated on technical replication of Hinkley Point C. EDF will be an important supplier of nuclear capability for the SZC Programme from its established nuclear business footprint in the UK.

Key stakeholders are UK Government, relevant Government departments and agencies including Treasury DESNZ, EDF, Financial investors and institutions, Regulators, Alliance partners, and local communities.
Principal Accountabilities, Activities, and Decisions
- Development of category strategies based on value and complexity, which align to organizational priorities, market conditions, and business needs
- Ensure category strategies are aligned to the strategic sourcing pipeline and agreed with the Senior Strategic Sourcing Manager
- Leading the end-to-end procurement process to deliver the category strategy outcomes
- Identifying/reporting strategic objectives and cost reduction targets against addressable spend. Capturing best practice through success/benefits case studies highlighting improved safety, increased productivity/performance, innovation, and efficiencies.
- Responsible for identifying and delivering savings / efficiencies both in terms of cost and productivity
- Contribute towards carbon reduction initiatives linked to opportunities highlighted in category strategies and through other ESG led workstreams
- Promote and enhance use of social value / social enterprises wherever possible through tender activity and contractual commitments
- Ensuring the end-to-end procurement process adheres to the AGS and Signature of Contract (SOC) deadlines including accurate and timely reporting of key milestones
- Building the supply market analysis; investigating supply chain capability to identify emerging innovations and improvement opportunities to shape the development of category strategies
- Facilitating the strategy approval and AGS governance process through each stage gate review
- Facilitating the implementation of category strategies through strategic supplier relationship management (SRM) and supplier development once strategies and frameworks are in place
- Work in cross-function teams, collaborating with functions such as finance, legal, operations, technical, supply chain to develop and deliver effective procurement strategies and sourcing outcomes
- Expectation for regular travel to London office (once per week) and Site office in Suffolk (every 4-6 weeks)

Essential
- Extensive strategic sourcing / category management development and implementation experience across high value, complex supply chain categories
- Experience in leading end to end procurement cycles within a regulated environment
- Strong stakeholder influencing skills across various levels of seniority
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and adherence to governance processes
- Strong negotiating, influencing, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities effectively
- Strong inter-personal skills and able to work within a multi-disciplinary team
- Management skills with a track record of development within teams
- Strong oral and written presentation skills
- Demonstrable understanding of collaborative working with internal and external stakeholders
Desirable
- Construction or Nuclear experience
- NEC contract experience
- Complex infrastructure project experience
Qualifications & Experience
- MCIPS accreditation or working towards accreditation or similar
