About The Role
As a Strategic Technical Interface Manager, you will be responsible for managing a portfolio of Strategic Technical Interfaces that impact multiple projects across the Strategic Infrastructure Portfolio. You will act as National Grid's senior day-to-day representative with key external organisations, including utility companies, transport authorities, other infrastructure providers and internal National Grid stakeholders, ensuring that interface requirements are understood, risks are managed and opportunities are realised.
We are recruiting multiple Strategic Technical Interface Managers to support projects across our East of England and North regions. You'll be assigned to a project within your region and will travel to the relevant project office on a weekly basis.
You’ll need to be a strategic leader who excels at delving into the detail and identifying potential risks or issues. You’ll be working within a complex environment and dealing with the multidisciplinary aspects of our transformational portfolio; if you’re looking to take on more responsibility, this is a unique opportunity.
The Strategic Technical Interface Manager will work closely with the Portfolio Technical Interface Manager, Portfolio Directors, Project Directors, Senior Project Managers, Delivery Partners and external stakeholders to ensure strategic technical interfaces are managed consistently, efficiently and proactively across the portfolio.
This role is Variable Based. You will be expected to travel to project locations throughout your working week based on project demands. Operational or delivery roles requiring attendance at multiple sites within a region.
About You
- Degree level education in a relevant discipline, or equivalent experience in major infrastructure planning and delivery.
- Significant experience in the delivery of infrastructure projects and across multi-disciplinary teams.
- Strong communication, facilitation and relationship management skills, with the ability to engage credibly with senior leaders, project teams and external stakeholders.
- Proven experience managing complex stakeholder relationships across multiple organisations, including the ability to influence outcomes without direct authority.
- Strong understanding of project and programme management principles, including the management of dependencies, interfaces, risk and governance.
- Experience developing and implementing governance processes, reporting frameworks and performance measures to support effective decision making.
- Demonstrated ability to lead change, drive continuous improvement and establish consistent ways of working across multiple projects or organisations.
- Understanding of commercial, legal and regulatory frameworks applicable to major infrastructure projects, including the development and management of third-party agreements.
- Experience of negotiating technical, commercial or contractual agreements and securing outcomes that balance cost, schedule, scope and risk objectives.
- Experience working within a portfolio environment, identifying cross-project dependencies, opportunities and constraints and translating these into practical delivery actions.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
