Job Description:
Role Synopsis
As a Strategy Advisor in bp’s Corporate Strategy team, you will be responsible for facilitating and developing the next generation of bp’s corporate and business strategies and policies. This is a highly integrated role, requiring experience and knowledge of the energy sector, alongside the ability to build strong stakeholder relationships across bp and with external parties.
You will support bp in addressing complex strategic challenges, identifying opportunities for growth, and shaping the future direction of the business. As a member of the Corporate Strategy team, you will demonstrate bp’s "Who We Are" principles by living our purpose, playing to win, and caring for others.
Key Accountabilities
Strategy Development and Innovation
- Solve complex business challenges through a hypothesis-led approach to strategy and policy development.
- Develop strategic plans, recommendations, and execution roadmaps aligned with bp’s strategic objectives.
- Evaluate strategic options and support the development of corporate and business strategies.
Project Leadership
- Lead and handle the day-to-day delivery of strategy and policy projects.
- Facilitate work planning sessions, stand-ups, and project reviews.
- Track project performance against plans, timelines, and deliverables, finding opportunities for improvement and mitigating risks.
Stakeholder Relationship Management
- Act as a primary point of contact for business and integrating function partners throughout the lifecycle of strategic projects.
- Build and maintain trusted relationships across a diverse stakeholder network.
- Ensure stakeholder needs are understood and translated into effective strategic solutions.
Strategy Communication
- Develop, prepare, and present high-quality strategy materials, reports, briefings, and recommendations.
- Communicate strategic insights and solutions to a broad range of audiences, including bp businesses, integrating functions, and bp Leadership Team members.
- Facilitate discussions and workshops to drive alignment and decision-making.
Strategic Origination
- Stay informed of industry developments, emerging trends, competitor activities, and market movements.
- Identify new strategic business opportunities aligned to bp’s strategic direction.
- Bring external perspectives and innovative thinking into strategic discussions.
Development and Coaching
- Support the development of team capabilities through coaching and mentoring junior colleagues.
- Provide quality assurance and constructive feedback on strategic analyses, presentations, and project outputs.
- Promote collaboration, continuous improvement, and knowledge sharing across the team.

- Contribute to bp’s intellectual capital through the sharing of knowledge, insights, and best practices.
- Help develop and enhance strategic methodologies, frameworks, and tools used across the Corporate Strategy team.

Essential Experience
- Demonstrable interest in the opportunities and challenges facing a global energy sector in transition.
- Strong financial competence, including the ability to understand, analyse, and communicate project and business financial metrics, and develop commercial models.
- Multiple years of experience within the energy sector, a credible professional services firm, or a role demonstrating highly transferable cross-industry capabilities.
- Consistent track record of leading projects and project teams, including initiating and developing projects, mobilising teams, coordinating timelines and deliverables, and motivating team members.
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with demonstrated success in developing strategies that drive meaningful business improvements and align with organisational objectives.
- Excellent partner management skills with experience building and maintaining strong relationships and delivering high-quality solutions.
- Strong communication, presentation, and facilitation skills, including experience leading workshops and engaging with senior stakeholders.
- Bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience, in business, economics, engineering, science, or another relevant rigor.
Desirable Experience
- Experience in consulting, corporate strategy, or business strategy within a relevant sector.
- Broad understanding of industry trends, market dynamics, and the challenges facing organisations operating in a rapidly evolving environment.

This role will start in St James' Square, London. bp has announced a planned office move to Timber Square, London, with all positions currently advertised in St James' Square, including this one, expected to relocate around Q4 2027-Q1 2028.
