About the role:
This is an exciting 12-month fixed-term or internal secondment opportunity to join the Strategy team within the Innovation and Impact department. Reporting to the Associate Director of Strategy, the role will work closely with colleagues across the team and engage widely across the organisation to support the coordination of strategic activity across Sanger.
The role will contribute to the development and delivery of strategic initiatives, including strategic plans, papers, briefings, and other materials. This will involve drawing together evidence and insight from a range of sources to inform strategic thinking and support effective decision-making.
As part of this work, the Strategy Advisor will contribute to horizon scanning activities, researching and analysing emerging trends, opportunities, and risks, and considering their potential implications for the organisation, so we’d be particularly interested in candidates with interest in and/or experience of strategic horizon scanning methodologies/approaches.
The role will take a collaborative and flexible approach, working with stakeholders to bring together contributions and support meetings, workshops, and senior-level discussions. Through this work, the Strategy Advisor will help ensure that strategic activity is forward-looking, evidence-based, well-coordinated, and clearly communicated.
We welcome applications from individuals with a broad range of skills and experience that don’t exactly fit our requirements but who can provide proof of exceptional work.
About you:
- Organised and analytical, comfortable supporting strategic, programme, and project activity in a complex and changing environment.
- Able to gather, interpret, and synthesise information from a range of sources, producing clear and concise written materials for different audiences.
- Strong attention to detail and confident in managing multiple priorities while working at pace and maintaining a high standard of work.
- Collaborative and confident working with colleagues and stakeholders across different teams.
- Able to coordinate activity, track progress, and ensure that actions and information are managed effectively to support successful delivery.
- Curious and adaptable, with an interest in the research and policy environment in which the Institute operates.
- Motivated by the opportunity to contribute to strategic work and help turn information and insight into effective planning and decision-making.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
