Person specification

The successful candidate will have a strong track record of strategy development, implementation and/or substantial use of strategic tools and techniques in previous roles. You will have experience of analysing complex issues, turning evidence into practical recommendations and delivering outcomes through collaboration with others.

You will be confident engaging senior stakeholders, building effective relationships and working across organisational boundaries to achieve shared objectives.

Essential Requirements

  • Experience of leading strategy development, including developing strategies that set longer term overarching direction for an operational delivery organisation and/or multiple areas (for example operational, productivity, customer, digital, target operating model etc.) or substantial use of strategic tools and techniques
  • Experience operationalising strategies for large-scale organisations
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex information clearly and produce high-quality written products for a range of audiences, including senior decision-makers
  • Experience of building effective partnerships and influencing senior stakeholders across organisational boundaries to deliver strategic outcomes in complex organisational
  • Proven leadership capability, including developing individuals and leading high-performing teams in a complex environment
  • Ability to interpret technical and operational information and translate it into clear strategy advice.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to draw key insights from data and develop evidence-based proposals
  • Experience of developing or working within complex assurance, reporting or performance frameworks.

Desirable

Understanding or experience in enterprise design and strategic engagement across complex stakeholder landscapes.

Benefits

Sponsorship

Hybrid working at HMRC

HMRC is an office-based organisation, and colleagues are expected to spend 60% of their working time in the office. Our offices provide opportunity for interaction, collaboration which aids learning and development and a sense of community. Where the role allows it, and where the home environment is suitable, colleagues can work from home for up to 2 days a week, averaged over a calendar month (or a proportionate amount of time for colleagues who work less than full time).
