Job Description & Summary
About the Role
PwC’s UK Economics & Regulatory Strategy team is looking for an experienced regulatory economist at Senior Manager grade to join the firm’s expanding Regulatory Strategy & Economics practice.
We are looking for candidates with a strong background of professional experience, gained in an economic regulator, regulated company, or in a consultancy. The successful applicants will need to demonstrate an ability to apply strategic thinking and economic theory in real-world contexts.
Successful candidates will be comfortable applying an economic and strategic lens to assess business, policy, and regulatory issues within the regulated utilities sector. They will also be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience in delivering successful projects across one or more of the following areas: the design, assessment, and implementation of regulatory mechanisms; the development of regulatory strategy and the management of regulatory negotiations; end-to-end understanding of the price review cycle; incentive design; cost benchmarking and cost analysis; regulatory finance; and regulatory due diligence.
The ideal candidates will also be able to demonstrate an ability, with appropriate support, to play a role in the expansion of PwC’s Regulation work. Similarly, candidates should also be experienced in client management and bridging the gap between technical and strategic client teams.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
