How you'll make a difference
As a StreetCare Operative, you will work as part of a front-line team supporting parish and town councils across South Gloucestershire. Working alongside a Lead Operative, you will carry out a variety of StreetCare tasks as directed by the Supervisor, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard. You will take pride in maintaining local environments, responding to service requests and contributing to the delivery of quality services for local communities.
What you will be doing
It will be your responsibility to operate a range of specialist equipment, including strimmers, hedge cutters, hand blowers, pole saw and other power tools, carrying out tasks safely and effectively. Training will be provided where required.
- Undertaking a variety of grounds maintenance and environmental works, you will clear detritus from lanes and footpaths, litter pick and complete minor repairs such as fencing.
- You will carry out routine maintenance operations on roadside verges, footpaths and other public spaces, including vegetation management, heavy cutbacks and clearance works, maintaining areas to a high standard.
- Communicating professionally with residents, you will provide accurate information and advice while representing the service positively within local communities.
- It will be important to identify and report any issues, concerns or resident feedback, escalating matters to the Lead Operative and Supervisor where appropriate to support the effective delivery of services.

What we need from you
It is essential that you have practical experience in grounds maintenance, with the ability to operate commercial grounds equipment such as strimmers, hedge trimmers and leaf blowers safely and effectively.
- You must hold a full UK driving licence and ideally have experience of driving a long-wheelbase Transit-style tipper vehicles, together with experience in a similar commercial or public sector environment or transferable skills from a related role.
- We are looking for someone who can work independently and follow instructions accurately, with the ability to read maps, navigate assigned work areas and maintain clear and accurate records.
- You will have a good understanding of health and safety requirements, including the risks and hazards associated with grounds maintenance activities and the safe use of equipment.
- It will be key for you to have experience of working directly with members of the public, providing a high standard of customer care and communicating professionally and courteously at all times.
What you need to know
- Where needed, relevant training can be provided.
- Your uniform and equipment will be provided.
- We require you to travel throughout the authority and surrounding area so you must have a full, valid driving licence.
- We anticipate interviews taking place week commencing 9th November 2026.
